We’ve said before that we’re not a celebrity gossip blog by trade. This is true, but we’re not also not above a little fanfare when an A-lister pops through town. As movies and TV shows continue to make Hudson County their soundstage, we thought it appropriate to create a comprehensive list of all the projects currently filming in Hoboken + Jersey City, so that fellow pop-culture enthusiasts can stay current on the latest. Since the start of 2024, JLo, Timothée Chalamet, and Paul Mescal have all been seen in the area — and there’s no telling what celebrity will make a Garden State visit next. We’ll be updating this article whenever necessary. As of December 2nd, 2024, keep reading for a list of all the movies and TV shows currently filming in Hoboken + Jersey City.
Currently Filming
TBIM (The Beast in Me)

Signage was seen in Jersey City earlier this month indicating that a new television series, TBIM, is filming near West Side Avenue. A savvy HG reader tipped that TBIM is an acronym for The Beast in Me, an original Netflix “mystery thriller series about an author who investigates her neighbor, the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance,” per Netflix. It stars Claire Danes, Brittany Snow, and Matthew Rhys, and is filming in North Jersey until February 2025, per the NJ Motion Picture & Television Commission.
On December 3rd, film crews were again spotted in Jersey City, this time near Warren and Morgan Streets. Per HG readers, the set is taking over an entire parking lot in the area, across from The Lively Apartments.
Deliver Me From Nowhere

Loyal HG readers know that Jeremy Allen White is a frequent celebrity visitor, embarking on something of an unofficial coffee crawl over the past two months (which, of course, we covered here). His Hoboken visits are not without reason: Jeremy Allen White is currently working on Deliver Me From Nowhere, an upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic that is filming throughout the state.
Bayonne has been a central location for filming. Just as recently as November 30th, TapInto reported film crew presence “near Avenue A and Third Street.” Earlier in the month, The Boss himself visited the set, which you can see photos of here.
July
Motor City
Starring: Shailene Woodley, Ben Foster, Pablo Schreiber, Alan Ritchson

In July, HG readers saw Big Little Lies star Shailene Woodley dining at Elysian Cafe. Later in the week, another reader spotted the actress treating herself to a pedicure at Nailed It in Hoboken.
Shailene is starring alongside Ben Foster and Pablo Schreiber in an upcoming film Motor City, which was previously listed on the NJ Motion Picture + Television Commission as filming in the North Jersey area. The listed production studio was headquartered in Secaucus.
Per Variety, “Motor City follows John Miller (Ritchson), a Detroit auto-worker whose life and girlfriend (Woodley) are taken away from him when he’s framed by a local gangster (Foster) and sent to prison. On his release, Miller unleashes a maelstrom of vengeance on those who wronged him as he attempts to win his girl back.”
April, May, June
A Complete Unknown
Starring: Timothée Chalamet
Last Seen: 1st + Bloomfield Streets, June 10th
On Monday, March 25th, an eagle-eyed Hoboken Girl reader spotted what looked like a film crew at Jersey City’s Miss America Diner — an old-school spot serving classic NJ diner fare at 322 West Side Avenue. A member of the on-site film crew confirmed that the project is A Complete Unknown, the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic starring Timothée Chalamet.
Per NJ.com, the crew had two late-night shoots at Miss America on March 25th and 26th, before embarking on a Tour De Jersey City Diner. White Mana Diner was the next Jersey City outpost to serve as a film location for the Chalamet-led movie — the famed burger joint on Tonelle Avenue was closed for filming on April 4th.

On April 12th, Timmy finally made his way to Hoboken, with film crews taking over popular Irish pub Moran’s and Church Square Park on Garden Street. Locals came out in droves to catch the star in action, who strolled the Mile Square streets in an all-black suit and sunglasses around 9PM. The following week, the crew returned to Jersey City, where faux vintage signage lined the Jersey Avenue strip.
Timmy and the crew showed no signs of slowing down. On May 28th, A Complete Unknown was filming in Hoboken’s Columbus Park and other nearby areas. Just a week later, on June 5th, the actor was photographed signing an autograph for a young Hoboken resident on 11th + Bloomfield Streets. Little City Books on 1st + Bloomfield Street also underwent a little bit of a makeover, and on June 10th, locals spotted the actor filming at the Hoboken bookshop.

A Complete Unknown is set in “the influential New York music scene of the early ’60s” and follows “19-year-old Minnesota musician Bob Dylan’s meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts.” The title refers to Bob Dylan’s hit “Like a Rolling Stone,” in which he sings: “How does it feel, how does it feel/To be without a home, like a complete unknown, like a rolling stone?”

April + March
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
Last Seen: Liberty State Park, April 27th
Canonically, Apes aren’t set to take over the world at least until the year 3,000, but Jersey City locals at Liberty State Park got a little preview of ape domination this Saturday, April 27th. Three unfriendly apes made their way through the park — atop three large horses — to promote the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Per Jersey City Times, these primates were in town for a photoshoot in front of the New York City skyline.
The movie was released on Friday, May 10th, and takes place nearly 300 years after War of the Planet of the Apes, following “a young ape goes on a journey that will lead him to question everything he’s been taught about the past and make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike,” per IMDb.
Miller by Marriage

Hoboken readers spotted film crews in the early morning of March 26th. Signage on Bloomfield Street + 11th Street indicated that the project is called Miller by Marriage directed by Edward Burns and will be filming in town through April.
Despite elusive details earlier this year, the film is officially slated to premiere in January 2025, under the title Millers in Marriage. According to IMDB, the story follows “Eve Miller, a former indie rock singer, struggles with her toxic marriage while growing attracted to a music journalist. Her sister Maggie, a bestselling author, faces marital discord as her career overshadows her husband’s.”
The History of Sound
Starring: Paul Mescal, Josh O’Connor
Last Seen: Hamilton Park, April 1st
A big headline for Gen-Zers with high screen time, resident “sad boy” Paul Mescal (who starred in the Salley Rooney-adapted mini-series Normal People) was seen at 10th + Willow in Hoboken on March 5th. Joined by Josh O’Connor (who starred beside Zendaya in Challengers), the two were working on a period romance called The History of Sound, which spent a week filming at the Hoboken bar in March.
On Monday, April 1st, the crew was again spotted at Hamilton Park in Jersey City.
The History of Sound follows two young men during World War 1, Lionel and David, who set out to record the lives, voices, and music of American countrymen, all the while falling in love. Paul Mescal plays the role of Lionel, and Josh O’Connor plays the role of David. The movie is actively filming in New Jersey, with its release date set for sometime in 2025.
Kiss of the Spider Woman
Starring: Jennifer Lopez
Last seen: Elysian Cafe, March 26th
Several unsuspecting Hoboken Girl readers spotted JLo in Hoboken on the afternoon of March 26th and shared the tea via DMs and email. A surprising sight for any Mile Square resident, Mrs. Jenny from the Block was seen dining at Elysian Cafe, Hoboken’s oldest continuously operating restaurant.
That’s not the last Hudson County will see of JLo, either: her upcoming movie, Kiss of the Spider Woman, was filmed in early April at locations in Jersey City in Kearny.
Per Variety, JLo was first attached to Kiss of the Spider Woman in December 2023. The film is an adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name, written and directed by Dreamgirls filmmaker Bill Condon. “The musical is set in an Argentinian prison in 1981,” Variety reported in December. “Lopez would play the titular role, a fantasy woman named Aurora created by Luis Molina, a gay hairdresser serving an eight-year sentence for allegedly corrupting a minor.”
Beyond the Rush

Earlier this year, Eric Roberts (father of Emma Roberts, sister to Julia Roberts) took to Instagram to gush over Basile’s Pizza in Jersey City: “Most assuredly my favorite pizza (& people) anywhere ever!” The first try was posted upside down — how he managed that is unclear to us — but sentiments in the follow-up remained the same: “Best Pizza Ever.”
Turns out, Eric wasn’t just in town for a quick slice. He starred in a new release, Beyond the Rush, alongside Cathy Moriarty, John Savage, and Jayce Bartok. The movie, according to IMDB, follows an investigative journalist “Working undercover to expose a corrupt judge,” as he “confronts his secret past plus his mother’s mental illness and must choose between addiction and obsession or love and redemption.” Eric Roberts portrays the corrupt judge.
February
Before
Starring: Billy Crystal
Last Seen: 12th + 13th Streets, February 2nd
Billy Crystal is most known for his titular role of Harry in When Harry Met Sally, but the iconic actor swapped cozy-Meg-Ryan-rom-com and streets of NYC for a psychological thriller that shot in Hoboken this past February. Called Before, the project is a Paramount Studios production that premiered on Apple TV+ as a limited series. Billy portrays Eli, a child psychiatrist who encounters a troubled young boy shortly after losing his wife.
On February 2nd, Billy Crystal and co. had blocked off several parts of Washington Street for filming, per Patch. HG readers submitted photos of film crews between 12th + 13th Streets. Unfortunately, there were no Billy Crystal sightings at the time — but back in the summer of 2023, Hoboken residents did see the veteran actor taking in views from Pier A Park.
January
It Ends with Us

The Blake Lively-led, Colleen Hoover novel-turned-movie is sort of Hoboken’s “big break,” ushering in this era of major motion pictures to film in Hudson County. Crews were first spotted in the early days of May 2023, but tides turned on May 17th, when Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively were seen filming on Bloomfield + 10th Streets. Locals poured out in droves to catch the A-Listers in action.
Filming paused due to the WGA Strike but resumed again in January of this year. The It Ends with Us cast and crew made their way to the Newport waterfront in Jersey City. Blake and Justin were once again spotted by locals, this time accompanied by Blake’s husband Ryan Reynolds.
Indeed, it might end with us, Hudson County locals. January was the last reported time the crew was seen filming. The movie premiered on June 21st, 2024, with Hoboken + Jersey City cameos abound.

American Horror Stories
Starring: Rotating Cast
Last Seen: Elysian Cafe, January 26th
Hoboken has its fair share of rumored-to-be-haunted places, and though Elysian Cafe isn’t one of them, it entered a new category last November: rumored to be the filming location for a popular horror television series.
On Friday, January 26th, Elysian Cafe was closed to customers so that American Horror Stories — an FX + Hulu spinoff of the popular series American Horror Story — could use the restaurant as a film set. That was the second time the show had used the space, the first being November 2023.
American Horror Stories is an anthology spinoff to the award-winning series starring Emma Roberts and Evan Peters (the latter of which left after nine seasons). It features a different story each week, meaning no two episodes are in the same location or feature the same set of characters.

Nûrish is a cozy cafe with a vegan and vegetarian focus. Besides coffee, locals can grab smoothies, sandwiches, and more. The cafe is a 10-minute walk from the Liberty State Park Station and opens at 7AM daily.

There’s plenty of seating, and strong WiFi, in Brewshot which makes it a great spot to get some work done. The menu is full of specialty lattes and breakfast sandwiches which can be enjoyed as early as 8AM. Brewshot is a 4-minute walk from the Jersey Avenue Station.
Cocoa Bakery | 275 Grand Street
Cocoa Bakery's downtown location is a 5-minute walk from the Jersey Avenue Station. The tasty bake shop also serves coffee and fresh pastries to grab and go or for a special occasion. Cocoa Bakery is open at 9AM Tuesday through Saturday and 10AM on Sundays.

The charming, cafe Dolma specializes in fresh Turkish flavors and American dishes. The cafe also has a selection of coffee creations available as early as 7:30am on weekdays. The cafe is a 5-minute walk from the Jersey Avenue Station.

B18 is run by the Beechwood Cafe team and serves espresso drinks, pancakes, and breakfast sandwiches. It opens at 8AM on weekdays and 9AM on weekends so you can stop by for a bite before a busy day ahead.
Prkup Up Coffee | 197 Van Vorst Street
Prkup Coffee has a community vibe along with an excellent coffee menu. Keep an eye out for seasonal specials like a Vermont Maple Syrup Latte in the fall. There’s a pastry case full of treats if you’re looking for something sweet, but Prkup Up also sells savory options like avocado toast and bagels.

Gotan is one of the latest NYC cafes to open on this side of the Hudson. Coffee is served as early as 7AM so it’s a great option if you have an early morning commute.

Semicolon Cafe is a short walk from the Essex Street stop and has some of the best coffee around. The menu includes espresso drinks, matcha lattes, and Semicolon’s signature egg sandwiches. The space features tons of plants and natural light and it’s a beautiful spot to relax if you have some time to kill before catching the light rail.

Popular coffee chain, Bluestone Lane is just a 2-minute walk from the Essex Street Station in Jersey City. The Australian-inspired eatery is opens at 7:30AM on weekdays and 8AM on weekends.

Gregorys Coffee | 10 Exchange Place
Gregorys Coffee opens at 6AM on weekdays and has an order ahead option — two great features if you need to fuel an early morning commute. Plus, the menu includes smoothies, juice, and a bunch of food that’s easy to take on-the-go if you’re not looking for coffee quite yet.
Maman | 70 Hudson Street
NYC-based French cafe and bakery, Maman, made its way to Jersey City a few years ago. The spot serves a selection of baked goods, coffee, juices, teas, fresh breakfast, and lunch options.
Starbucks | 15 Exchange Place
Starbucks isn’t the most local coffee around by any means, but this location opens at 5:30AM so it’s often the only option for early morning light rail riders.
Dunkin' | 1 Exchange Place + 105 Greene Street
If you're in a pinch, classic go-to Dunkin' has two locations just steps away from the Exchange Place Station. The outpost at 1 Exchange Place is just a 1-minute walk from the station while the 105 Greene Street location is a 3-minute walk. Both locations are open at 5:30AM on weekdays and 6:30AM on weekends.
Harborside
Canard Cafe Bar | 200 Greene Street
Located in the Urby, Canard Cafe Bar is a great option if you’re looking for a place to work for a bit before taking the light rail to your next destination. There are tons of tables and outlets in the Canard plus a full menu of coffee and pastries to keep you going for a while.
Butler Café | 350 Warren Street
Butler Café located inside of CoolVines is open weekdays at 7AM and weekends at 8AM. The coffee shop has a variety of espresso-based creations, drip coffee, pastries, and small bites and is a 6-minute walk from the Harborside Station.
Maggie's Farm Espresso | 88 Morgan Street
Maggie's Farm Espresso is an Australian-inspired cafe serving breakfast, lunch, pastries, and a variety of specialty coffees and teas. The cafe is open daily at 7AM and is a quick 4-minute walk from the Harborside Station.
Lackawanna Coffee | 325 Warren Street + 140 Bay Street
Lackawanna Coffee has two locations close to the Harborside Station. The 325 Warren Street outpost is a 6-minute walk and the 140 Bay Street outpost is an 11-minute walk. Both locations are open from 5AM-7PM daily.
Harsimus Cove
Le Cafe Coffee | 444 Warren Street
This artisanal coffee shop has a bunch of locations around New York but anyone traveling via the Harsimus Cove light rail stop can easily check out this cafe without leaving Jersey City. Signature drinks include the lavender latte and red tea latte which can be enjoyed alongside one of the tempting toasts or bagels.
Bleu Coffee | 175 2nd Street
Bleu Coffee's downtown location is a 4-minute walk from the Harsimus Cove Station and is open daily at 7AM. The coffee shop's menu is comprised of locally roasted coffee creations and serves as a great space to relax or get some remote work done.
Hidden Grounds | 148 1st Street
Hidden Grounds' 148 1st Street location is a 5-minute walk from the Harsimus Cove Station. The coffee shop serves breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and high-quality coffee and tea. Hidden Grounds is open on weekdays at 7AM and weekends at 8AM.
Wattle Cafe | 352 Marin Boulevard
Wattle Cafe is an Australian cafe and restaurant serving healthy, locally sourced food and coffee. The cafe is a 6-minute walk from the Harsimus Cove Station and is open at 8AM on weekdays and 9AM on weekends.
Hybrid Coffee | 398 Manila Avenue
Hybrid Coffee is a trendy cafe serving coffee, smoothies, avocado toast, acai bowls, and more. The eatery is open Monday through Saturday from 8AM-4PM and is a 7-minute walk from the Harsimus Cove Station.
Bourke Street Bakery | 331 Marin Boulevard
Bourke Street Bakery is an Australian-inspired bakery serving artisanal breads, pastries, meat pies, and Counter Culture coffee. The bakery opens daily at 8AM and is an 8-minute walk to the Harsimus Cove Station.
Newport
Gregorys Coffee | 525 Washington Boulevard
Gregorys has another location along the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail line. It’s convenient for commuters since it opens at 6AM and, like the Exchange Place location, order ahead is available.
Starbucks | 111 Town Square Place
In a pinch, Starbucks is a reliable coffee option. This location is a 7-minute walk from the Newport Station and opens at 5AM on weekdays and 5:30PM on weekends.
Roast'd | 10 River Drive South
Roast'd is a New Jersey-based coffee shop. The high-quality beans come in the form of drip coffee, espresso-based drinks, and more. Roast'd is a 9-minute walk from the Newport Station and opens daily at 7AM.
Bwè Kafe | 140 River Drive South
Bwè Kafe is an ethical trade coffee shop with a relaxing ambiance. The Jersey City location is a 11-minute walk from the Newport Station and is open from 8AM-5PM daily.
Café Esmé | 485 Marin Boulevard
Café Esmé is a chic French cafe with coffee, teas, pastries, sandwiches, juices, and more. The cafe is an 11-minute walk from the Newport Station and opens at 7AM Tuesday through Friday and 8AM on weekends.
O Kafe | 230 Pavonia Avenue
O Kafe is a great place to work remotely, cozy up with a good book, or dine in. The cafe serves coffee, tea, pastries, sandwiches and other light bites. O Kafe opens at 6:30AM on weekdays and 7AM on weekends. This spot is a 14-minute walk from the Newport Station.
Hoboken Terminal
Joboken Cafe | 23 Hudson Place
We can’t help but chuckle when we say the name “Joboken” and that’s enough of a reason to start the day here. Coffee, tea, and Balthazar Bakery pastries are available daily.
2nd Street
Café Sophia | 200 Monroe Street
This cozy cafe is just a short 5-minute walk from the 2nd Street light rail stop. Cafe Sophia serves Lavazza coffee, omelets, and a selection of breakfast sandwiches served on bread that’s baked fresh each day. It’s open from 7AM-3PM on weekdays and 8AM-3PM on weekends — stop by for lunch if you’re craving a panini.
9th Street/Congress Street Station
Black Rail Coffee | 800 Jackson Street
Black Rail Coffee is practically located on the 9th Street/Congress Street Station platform. There are huge windows in the cafe so you can watch the light rail pass by while sipping a coffee. The cafe opens at 7AM on weekdays and 8AM on weekends and seems to have anything you would want from a cafe including espresso drinks, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and plenty of seating — both inside and out.
Gotan | 770 Jackson Street
Gotan Cafe serves up high-quality Counter Culture coffee and Mediterranean cuisine, bringing some staples from the Tribeca location across the Hudson. The Jackson Street location is open from 8AM-5PM daily and serves everything from cold brew to iced matcha lattes.
Yuki's Bakery + Coffee | 720 Monroe Street
Yuki's, an Israeli bakery and cafe, specializes in baked goods such as babka, challah, burek, rugelach, and hamentashen (a seasonal treat sold during Purim). The menu also features coffee from Counter Culture Coffee and organic teas.
Lincoln Harbor
