Hoboken has its fair share of rumored-to-be-haunted places, and though Elysian Cafe isn’t one of them, it entered a new category last November: rumored to be the filming location for a popular horror television series. Elysian Cafe, Hoboken’s oldest continuously operating restaurant, was closed to customers from Tuesday, November 28th until Thursday, November 30th so that American Horror Stories — an FX + Hulu spinoff of the popular series American Horror Story — could use the restaurant as a film set. While there were no celebs appearances in November, in the past, notable figures like Kaia Gerber and Paris Jackson (yes, Michael Jackson’s daughter) have starred on the show. Most recently, the crew of American Horror Stories was spotted filming again in the Mile Square on Friday, January 26th. Per Patch, American Horror Stories was filming once again in the Mile Square on Friday, January 26th. Filming crews were spotted near 4th Street on the west side of Hoboken, and it is unsure which episode the crew was filming. We will update this article as more details come out.
November Filming Details + About the Show
On Tuesday, November 28th, The Hoboken Girl received a reader tip that American Horror Story would be filming at Elysian Cafe in Hoboken. Of course, this prompted numerous questions, chief among them being: would Kim Kardashian be in town and would she go to Modern Nails?

HG reached out to Elysian for confirmation which shared that the project has “been in the works since before the strike started.” The team went on to say: “However, it’s not American Horror Story, it’s an FX/Hulu anthology piece in the design style of The Twilight Zone from Ryan Murphy Productions,” which answered our pressing Kim Kardashian questions.
The anthology show, American Horror Stories, was first released in July 2021 as a spin-off to the award-winning series starring Emma Roberts and Evan Peters (the latter of which left after nine seasons). American Horror Stories features a different story each week, meaning no two episodes are in the same location or feature the same set of characters. Elysian Cafe will only be in one episode, and at this time, it’s unclear what horrifying shape the restaurant will take — in the past, the show has traversed through a “creepy asylum, a coven of witches, a traveling freak show, a haunted hotel and the apocalypse itself,” per its FX description.
Cast members for the show have included Sierra McCormick, Paris Jackson, and Kaia Gerber, among others. It’s unclear if these celebs will be paying the Mile Square a visit, but of course, we’ll keep our eyes peeled.

Elysian Cafe is Hoboken’s oldest, continuously running restaurant. Though it’s not rumored to be haunted, it has certainly shifted shapes over the years; the cafe first opened in 1895 and continued through prohibition as an ice cream parlor + hair salon. In 2023, Elysian is a Hoboken staple for brunch and dinner, serving up a variety of French-bistro-style eats, including some of our favorite French Onion Soup in town.
