We’re not officially a celebrity gossip blog, but the amount of Hollywood figures in Hudson County lately is forcing our proverbial hands and the local stories they write. Joining this week’s lineup of rumored celebrity sightings is none other than Mrs. Jenny from the Block, Mrs. Lola, Mrs. JLo. That’s right — Jennifer Lopez was spotted in Hoboken today, March 26th, filming her upcoming movie Kiss of the Spider Woman at Elysian Cafe. Read on for what we know about JLo’s visit to Hoboken.

The Details
Several unsuspecting Hoboken Girl readers spotted JLo in Hoboken on the afternoon of March 26th and shared the tea via DMs and email. A surprising sight for any Mile Square resident, Jennifer Lopez is rumored to be in town filming Kiss of the Spider Woman, an upcoming movie adaptation of a musical bearing the same name.

Per Kemps Film TV Radio, filming for Kiss of the Spider Woman was scheduled to begin in early April, with locations in both Jersey City and Kearny — but looks to be starting sooner. If last year’s It Ends with Us spectacle taught us anything, it’s that filming usually begins a few weeks earlier than the paper trail suggests.

Locals spotted JLo at Elysian Cafe where film crews are currently hard at work. It’s worth noting that Jennifer Lopez “seemingly confirmed the start of production via her Instagram story,” which read: Day 1, [spider emoji]. An insider involved in the project confirmed with HG that rehearsals were underway earlier this morning at the Kearny location, and Patch reported this afternoon that JLo was seen dining at the Hoboken eatery.
It’s unclear how long Kiss of the Spider Woman or JLo will be in town, but there’s only one question on our mind: is Ben Affleck lurking somewhere behind Elysian Cafe, bearing his trademark Dunkin’ iced coffee and expression of existential dread?
About the Movie
Per Variety, JLo was first attached to Kiss of the Spider Woman in December 2023. The film is an adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name, written and directed by Dreamgirls filmmaker Bill Condon.
“The musical is set in an Argentinian prison in 1981,” Variety reported in December. “Lopez would play the titular role, a fantasy woman named Aurora created by Luis Molina, a gay hairdresser serving an eight-year sentence for allegedly corrupting a minor.”
This comes on the heels of Jennifer Lopez’s newest album “This is Me… Now” and its complementary musical film This is Me… Now: A Love Story. There was also the documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, which came out earlier this year. Like she said herself: “used to have a little, now I have a lot…” going on, that is.
