Jane’s Matcha Soft Opens in Jersey City on Franklin Street

Sparrow Wine

At this point, matcha might just be North Jersey’s unofficial drink of the summer. From specialty cafés to grocery store shelves, the green tea craze shows no signs of slowing down, but there is one local matcha brand that Jersey City and Hoboken residents have been consistently lining up for: Jane’s Matcha. What started as a farmers market stand grew into a year-long residency at The Alps in Jersey City, where loyal fans regularly stopped by for their daily green fix. Now, Jane’s Matcha has taken the next big step with a permanent brick-and-mortar at 93 Franklin Street in Jersey City, which celebrated its soft opening on Wednesday, July 8th. Read on to learn about Jane’s Matcha’s new home.

What to Expect at Jane’s Matcha in Jersey City

Unlike a traditional coffee shop, Jane’s Matcha is designed to be a tea room centered around the ritual and experience of tea. Every matcha beverage will be hand-whisked (as she already does) to order using traditional tools and ceremonial-grade matcha sourced directly from Japan. Guests will also be able to enjoy individual and shareable teapot sets featuring premium loose-leaf teas, including hojicha, genmaicha, and sencha.

Fans of Jane’s Matcha, yes, including a bunch of The Hoboken Girl team, can also look forward to the return of the brand’s signature Honeycomb Latte. The drink has been a favorite since the farmers’ market days and features matcha or hojicha with a choice of milk, topped with house-made cold foam, handcrafted honeycomb candy, and local honey sourced from Jersey City’s Swarm King Apiary.

The food menu is also shaping up to be something exciting. Jane has teamed up with Jersey City resident Chef Joe Piccirillo to develop a menu that is expected to include house-made baked goods, onigiri, and shokupan sandos.

A Full-Circle Moment for Jane’s Matcha

For founder Jane Yang, opening in The Heights is more than just a business move. It is a return to the neighborhood that helped the brand grow from the very beginning.

“I always knew if I was going to do this, it would start right here,” Yang said. “The Heights showed up for us on a cold, rainy Sunday before we’d even found our footing, and we’ve been trying to give that back ever since. We’ve been so grateful to grow with this neighborhood, and we can’t wait to give it a place to slow down.”
