Cafe Vista, with another location under a different name in Jersey City, is a Turkish Cafe. It is perfectly curated with homey, antique decor, serving aesthetic lattes, food, and pastries to match. The cozy, vintage feel is perfect for getting lost in a book.

Choc O Pain | 157 1st Street
Choc O Pain, having multiple locations throughout Hoboken and Jersey City, is a French bakery and cafe. The 1st Street location boasts lots of seating, including comfortable chairs tucked away in the quiet upstairs area. It also has cozy artwork, decor, and books on display.
Gotan | 770 Jackson Street
Gotan, with one location in Hoboken and another in New York City, serves high-quality coffee and Mediterranean-inspired food. The Hoboken cafe feels bright and modern upon entering, but has a cozy upstairs seating area with couches, artwork, and ambient lighting.

Àbákẹ́ Books & Cafe, recently opened in late 2025, is a hybrid cafe and bookstore—a rarity in Hudson County. The owners have curated an intentional collection of books spanning multiple genres. With a beautifully cozy interior and a variety of comfortable seating, it is a great place to find your next favorite book and enjoy a coffee made from beans sourced in Africa.
Cafe Madelaine | 34 Coles Street
Cafe Madelaine, established in 2018, is a French cafe specializing in croissants, cakes, and quiches. It is a quiet, rustic spot, inspired by the cafes of Paris. It also has an outdoor seating area, perfect for getting some sunshine while reading a good book.
Cafe Peanut | 586 Newark Avenue
Cafe Peanut, established in 2019, is a European-inspired cafe in the heart of Journal Square. Cosy Cup Library | 424 West Side Avenue
Cosy Cup Library, established in 2024, is a cafe that specializes in Asian-inspired drinks and pastries. Although the interior is more modern, it still deserves a spot on the list for its “library” theme. It has comfortable seating and a selection of books for customers to enjoy, as well as a quiet outdoor seating area to read at.
Dames Coffee | 581 Jersey Avenue
Dames Coffee, established in 2011, is a local favorite because of its quality espresso drinks and homemade pastries and baked goods—particularly the banana bread. The brick interior and hung artwork give it a classic cafe feel, and it has a quiet backyard seating area, perfect for getting lost in a book.
Dream Vista | 117 York Street
Dream Vista, the counterpart to Cafe Vista in Hoboken, is another Turkish cafe–this one, however, is known for its almost entirely blue accents and furniture, as well as its decor and dishware, most of which is available for purchase. It has a tucked-away backyard area with lots of seating and greenery, ideal for reading on a spring day.
Dullboy Bar | 364 Grove Street, Unit 2
Dullboy, initially just a bar and restaurant established in 2015, has recently opened up its cafe, which operates on Thursdays and Fridays from 9AM-3PM. During these hours, the upbeat establishment turns into a quiet cafe, perfect for reading while sipping on a specialty pandan or ube latte. It also features an entire wall of books, which really sets the literary vibe.
Lackawanna Coffee | 295 Grove Street + 325 Warren Street + 140 Bay Street
Lackawanna Coffee, with three locations throughout Jersey City, serves a variety of specialty lattes and pastries. The cafes tend to be on the modern side, but the Grove Street location specifically has a hidden backyard seating area with lots of greenery, complete with a pergola and even a ping pong table.
Snapdragon Coffee & Social | 190 Monticello Avenue
Snapdragon Coffee & Social, established in 2018, may be the coziest cafe on the list. Its menu includes a variety of aesthetic baked goods, drinks, and unique food items, with its Vietnamese coffee being a favorite. Spanning two spacious floors, it has an artsy, rustic feel, with colorful furniture, bookshelves, and ambient lighting.
Treehouse Coffee | 434A West Side Avenue; 75 Bright Street; 205 Brunswick Street + 615 Pavonia Avenue
Treehouse Coffee is a Jersey City-based coffee shop with four locations, but its West Side location is the most popular, and for good reason. It has a secluded backyard seating area and garden with lots of greenery and vibrant colors. It is the perfect place to bring a book, sip a specialty latte, and enjoy spring blooms away from the bustle of the city.
