In the past few months, the Mile Square has seen its fair share of filming. In November and January, American Horror Stories was filming at Elysian Cafe and other Hoboken locations. We also got a Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds appearance in early January when Blake was in town filming her new movie It Ends With Us. In early February, upcoming Apple TV+ Series Before starring Billy Crystal was also filming in Hoboken. The most recent filming to come to town is another new movie — a period drama called The History of Sound starring Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor. The movie is filming at Hoboken restaurant 10th + Willow this week. Read on for what we know and for more about The History of Sound.

Last week, a HG team member spotted a sign on the front of 10th + Willow, noting that the restaurant would be closed until Saturday, March 9th. We now know that this is for the filming of The History of Sound. We walked by again today, Tuesday, March 5th, and noticed film crews going in and out as well as a truck outside that said “Apple Studios”.

About The History of Sound

Per IMDb, The History of Sound is a romance film/period drama that follows two young men during World War 1 — Lionel and David — who set out to record the lives, voices, and music of American countrymen. The two men then begin to fall in love. Paul Mescal plays the role of Lionel, and Josh O’Connor plays the role of David.

Per Country + Town House, The History of Sound is adapted from a novella of the same name, which was written by Massachusetts-based author Ben Shattuck. The film is directed by South African director + writer, Oliver Hermanus. A release date has yet to be announced after the movie was pushed back due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes.
