Arrest Made in Fatal Hoboken Shooting of Local Resident

On Sunday, April 28th, Hoboken Police responded to reports of a shooting on Marshall Drive in Hoboken. In a statement posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the shooting was fatal. The deceased was identified as 21-year-old Damon Murray, of Hoboken. On Tuesday, April 30th, Hoboken Police announced the arrest of a suspect. Read on for the latest on this incident.

What to Know

While the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the shooting did result in one fatality, other sources said that the decedent was not found at the scene. According to RLSMedia, a gunshot victim who arrived at the Jersey City Medical Center was later identified as being connected to the Marshall Drive shooting.

The shooting was reported at 11:40PM near 320 Marshall Drive, and the HCPO’s statement was made at 1:30AM on Monday, April 29th. The victim’s identity has not been released.

Hoboken Councilman Ruben Ramos, who represents the 4th Ward, where the incident took place, shared the following statement via an email newsletter:

“I am sad to report that there was a tragic incident last evening where someone lost their life. The incident occurred at 3rd and Harrison and the Hudson County Prosecutors Office and Hoboken Police Department are investigating. At this time it appears to be an isolated incident and I will provide more details when they become available.

Victim Identified 

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office released the following statement on Monday, April 29th.

“Shortly after 11:30 p.m., the Hoboken Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of 320 Marshall Drive. Responding officers located a crime scene outside the building. A 21-year-old male, later identified as Damon Murray, of Hoboken, was transported by a private auto to Jersey City Medical Center with an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was pronounced dead just after 12 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024. The Cause and Manner of Death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Hoboken Police Department are actively investigating this matter. No arrests have been made at this time. Arrest Made

On Tuesday, April 30th, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office issued a press release announcing the arrest of a suspect in the case.

“A North Bergen man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Hoboken on Sunday, April 28, 2024. Albert Morales, 33, is charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1), Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1), and Unlawful Possession of Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1). He was arrested in Chicopee, Massachusetts on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, by members of the Massachusetts State Police and will remain in custody pending extradition to New Jersey.”
