The Details

Retro Fitness announced the closure of the Hoboken location on Instagram late last night, saying that the spot would be permanently closing effective August 3rd, 2023. The post went on to say that memberships for the gym would be automatically transferred to the Jersey City Retro Fitness, located at 701 NJ-440 in Hudson Mall. Per the Hoboken, New Jersey Facebook Group, the gym permanently closed yesterday at 10PM.

As for the future of this Hoboken space, it looks like another gym called Fitness Factory will be taking its place. On the gym’s website, it says that there is a Hoboken location at 130 Washington Street — the same location as the now-closed Retro Fitness.

Fitness Factory currently has three other Hudson County locations in Jersey City (525 Washington Boulevard), West New York (6209 Bergenline Avenue), and Edgewater (521 River Road).

Currently, there are plenty of options in the Mile Square for those looking for their gym fix. Zapp Fitness, located at 84 Washington Street, provides a mixture of HIIT training and strength training. If you’re looking for CrossFit-style workouts, try out CrossFit Hoboken at 50 Marshall Street.

For those looking for a different type of workout, Club Pilates at 1400 Hudson Street Suite 3C provides all types of pilates classes. YogaRenew, located at 12 Hudson Place, is a good option when looking for yoga classes in Hoboken. Project Sculpt at 319 Washington Street Floor 2 provides all types of fitness options like upper and lower body, abs, cardio, and boxing. The Drip also provides lots of options — including cycling, pilates, barre, and Drip, its signature class. If looking for boxing classes, try out Rumble Boxing at 1201 Shipyard Lane.
