Boomerang Bites, a Jersey City bakery specializing in Australian recipes, has been in Hoboken for quite some time — with its pastries sold out of local coffee shops like bwè kafe. Now, the sweet shop is becoming a full-time Hoboken resident, moving from its Jersey City Heights location to take over the Madison Pizza Lab space at 152 Newark Street. At this time, it’s unclear when Madison Pizza Lab has officially closed its doors, according to sources close to the pizzeria. Boomerang Bites is now in its soft opening stages as of Monday, October 16th — and is doing so with a larger selection of Aussie bakery products. Read on for what we know about Madison Pizza Lab’s Closure and Boomerang Bites’ arrival at 152 Newark Street in Hoboken.

What We Know

On Friday, October 13th, Boomerang Bites posted about its soft opening on Instagram to share the news.

“This coming Monday, October 16, we’re soft launching our Hoboken Bakery! For the first week, we’ll be open from 10am-2pm (and maybe even later than that if needed!). Stop by for our YUMMO bites, a cuppa and a squizz at everything else we have in store for you, including freshly baked Aussie-style flatbread, a range of dips inspired by the flavors we love DOWN UNDER, savory cakes, freshly toasted muesli – and SO MUCH MORE! We can’t wait to welcome you,” the post read.

The Mile Square bakery will be open 10AM-2PM Monday through Saturday, and will be closed on Sundays.

Hobbs Inc

On Wednesday, August 2nd, Boomerang Bites took to Instagram to share some exciting news: the Aussie bakery is moving to Hoboken. In the post, owner Andrea Rizvi shared “We can hardly believe it – a year ago we were announcing the opening of our bakery in Jersey City Heights and now we’re moving to Hoboken!” See the post below.

A post shared by Boomerang Bites (@boomerangbites)

While Boomerang Bites is saying goodbye to its Jersey City Heights outpost at 476 Central Avenue (a shared brick-and-mortar with Babka Bailout which opened less than a year ago), Andrea told HG the new location will be home to Boomerang Bites’ trademark YUMMO bites, a slew of new Australian baked goods + home decor products. In the post, Andrea assured locals that her partnership with Babka Bailout isn’t completely over — the new location will serve “babka from the wonderful Babka Bailout.”

With good news comes bad news. Savvy locals might’ve recognized the blue doors in the background of the post — and if you guessed Madison Pizza Lab, you’d be right. A source close to the pizzeria, which opened last September from the same owner as The Madison Bar + Grill, confirmed to The Hoboken Girl that the Madison Pizza Lab is officially closed, as of Friday, August 4th.

The Hoboken Girl reached out to Madison Pizza Lab directly on the matter as soon as the Boomerang Bites’ news was shared, but has yet to receive a response.
