If you’ve been wondering what’s going on at 313 Washington Street {especially with Shake Shack now potentially coming down the block}, then you’ve come to the right place. Hoboken Girl is spilling the tea on the soon-to-be Lululemon, a first for the Canadian athletic wear company in the Mile Square — which is officially opening as of Friday, August 23rd at 10AM. Read on to find out all the tea on Lululemon coming to Hoboken.

    ^Well that tweet didn’t age well …

But lucky for the athleisure-lovers of Hudson County, Lululemon’s store manager, Julia Letarte wrote an email to the Hoboken Girl team on Sunday, August 11th confirming the opening date — “It’s official, Lululemon Hoboken opening on August 23rd 10am!” And the rest is athleisure history.

With stores all over Manhattan — Bowery, SoHo, Flat Iron, Tribeca, Times Square, and Montclair just to name a few — the technical athletic apparel company for women and men has set its sights on the Mile Square. It’s been a long time coming, as our team at Hoboken Girl first reported Lululemon rumors back in 2015. Nearly four years later, it was confirmed that Lululemon has applied for an available lease at 313 Washington {after what we’re told was many other locations scouted in Hoboken beforehand}.

Nastasi Architects designed the new space at 313 Wash back in 2017. According to original image renderings, Blue Mercury a makeup, skincare, and spa destination — was meant to take the front retail space. While other outlets are reporting that BM is no longer in talks to secure the space, it looks to us like Blue Mercury just moved next door. As it stands, at the time this article was published, the Blue Mercury online store locator confirms a Hoboken location is also coming soon to 315 Washington {again, another eyebrow-raising locale as it will be right down the block from Sephora}.

The newly revamped building at 313 might include a hot-spot for makeup and skincare enthusiasts right next door, but it’s much more than that. Almost directly across the street from the Athleta on Washington {le sigh…}, the building will also include seven apartments, a duplex-garage property that spans along Court Street, and the Lululemon will be taking the front retail space.

With 2,200-square feet to sell its yoga and running apparel, lifestyle apparel, and yoga accessories, this Hoboken location would join Lululemon’s ranks of other NJ locations in Montclair, Summit, Chatham, and an outpost location in the Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus.

“Our first designs were made for women to wear during yoga,” the website’s manifesto states. “Through plenty of feedback from our guests, ambassadors, and elite athletes, we now design for yoga, running, cycling, training and most other sweaty pursuits for women and men. Not to mention, our designers are athletes and sweat-minded people, too.”

As we shared earlier in June 2019, Lululemon’s application for the storefront was submitted to Hoboken’s Historic Preservation Commission per Jersey Digs and requests “a new sign in each window bay facing Washington Street.” It also requests a new wood frame door “to be painted to match the existing storefront.” The application was heard at the Preservation Commission’s meeting on May 6th.
