A New York-based coffee shop set up shop in the Paulus Hook neighborhood of Jersey City back in 2023, and now it is expanding to the Mile Square — with an official opening date of Friday, April 19th. Gotan Cafe serves up high-quality Counter Culture coffee and Mediterranean cuisine, bringing some staples from the Tribeca location across the Hudson. The Hoboken location will be located at 770 Jackson Street inside 7 Seventy House. Read on for more about Gotan coming to the Mile Square.

Opening in Hoboken
^ The new Hoboken location
Jersey Digs first shared the news of Gotan’s new Mile Square location at 770 Jackson Street inside the 7 Seventy House apartment complex back in April of 2023. It will occupy the long-empty storefront near the 9th Street Light Rail Station. This marks the coffee shop’s third Hudson County location, with other locations in Jersey City and Weehawken. The spot was looking to open in the winter of 2023, but Team HG has now confirmed that Gotan will be opening up in Hoboken on Friday, April 19th, 2024.

About the JC Location
Gotan’s Jersey City storefront is located next to Madox Apartments at 198 Van Vorst Street. The owner, Rami Rosen, also owns Yuki’s Coffee + Bakery in Hoboken (720 Monroe Street), which opened during the pandemic.

Rami told The Hoboken Girl that Gotan initially had four locations in New York, but then three spots were forced to shut down during the pandemic. The Tribeca location, at 130 Franklin Street, New York, has been in business for nine years and is still going strong.
The owner, who used to live in Hoboken but now resides in North Bergen, said that he wants to focus on expanding in New Jersey going forward.
“Jersey City is the place to be in today. It’s definitely a diverse community, a strong community, and we felt like there’s not enough quality of the same food and coffee that Gotan is famous for in Tribeca. We decided that the Jersey people enjoy better coffee,” Rami told HG.
The Jersey City location opened its doors on Wednesday, January 25th, 2023.
About the Menu
Although the coffee is the same between both the Tribeca and Jersey City locations, Rami said that the menu differs due to the fact that the JC space is smaller. We can assume that the menu at the Hoboken location will also differ slightly, and will keep you updated as any more details come out about it.

“Gotan is a third-generation specialty coffee with a very unique type of food. Counter Culture has been our partner for the last eight years.”
He continued, “Our passion is coffee so the coffee is high quality. Unlike many other coffee shops, we actually age our coffee. We use coffee for 10 days after it’s been aged. We don’t use it beyond that. Our coffee is consistent and very high quality.”
Their drink selection includes cold brew, Americano, espresso, macchiato, cappuccino, chai latte, matcha latte, and mint lemonade.

Rami also mentioned that Gotan Cafe is famous for its Middle Eastern cuisine. The owner took inspiration from Israel where he’s from and brought along “different touches from cuisines.”
Some plates include their famous tuna, avocado, and poached egg salad, as well as the avocado feta toast and tuna, avocado, and Swiss sandwich. The spot also serves yogurt, granola, and baked goods.
