Local resident, doctor, Chief Medical Officer at CarePoint’s Hoboken University Medical Center — no big deal. Those are just some of the roles our Hoboken Girl of the Week plays…or should we say slays. You might recognize Dr. Meika as she writes several guest posts for Hoboken Girl {when we need a professional’s knowledge on medical topics, we are always so grateful for her!}, but now you’ll really get to know her. Read on to learn more about her career, her inspirations, and some of her favorite local spots, from the source herself:

About Dr. Meika

I am the Chief Medical Officer, Senior Administrative Officer, and Chief Quality Officer at CarePoint Health – Hoboken University Medical Center. On What Inspires Her

My Dad. I live every day to make him proud of who I am. I want him to know that all of his hard work was not in vain.

Goals + Passions

I will always be a work in progress. This year I will be more patient and be more passionate. After all, what is there not to be passionate about in the Trump era. My main goal this year is to not be silent. Sometimes it’s too easy to walk out of a room or unfriend someone. But the lack of willingness to engage has gotten us to this point. See something, say something.

A Typical Day in the Life

I am very lucky to live only blocks away from the hospital [in Hoboken]. So, I can roll out of bed and into the hospital lobby (completely coiffed) in 30 minutes. I review the hospital stats, solve problems and try to help with issues as they come. As a doctor, my patients are my customers but as an administrator, my customers are all the staff, the doctors, the nurses and the patients. Feeling appreciated for what I do and making someone else feel appreciated are my highs.

Highlight of Her Career {So Far}

The highlight of my life so far… I don’t know if I have one. I have an amazing family and dogs. I think the highlight of my career at Hoboken University Medical Center was starting “Take Back the Night” with Kristie Damell from Stevens Hoboken Institute of Technology. This signature event has brought rape crisis awareness to the Hoboken community over the past four years bringing hundreds of marchers to share in the event.

I have led a very blessed and fortunate life. I have traveled around the world, as a student, a tourist and as a doctor.

What a Day Off is Like

I like to take walks with my husband and dogs. Sounds simple… but its really all I need.

Advice to Someone Wanting to Pursue the Same Career Path

I will be honest, brutally honest. Don’t wait so long to have kids. College, then medical school, then residency then I went back to graduate school…I didn’t start trying to have kids until my late 30s. My biggest regret was not focusing on my fertility until my late 30s, and by then it was too late.
