This year, Hoboken has welcomed over a dozen new beauty businesses, but two Hoboken bars underwent their own makeovers — one of those being The Waiting Room, a new bar that took over the former Bobble Heads space on 72 Hudson Street. After its first few months in town, The Waiting Room has launched a holiday-themed pop-up in its space. Called Candy Canes + Cocktails, the pop-up will run for the holiday season and features a menu of festive drinks. Read on to learn more about the revamped downtown spot in Hoboken and how it’s celebrating the holiday season.

The Waiting Room launched its festive pop-up on Friday, December 8th, introducing a fully decked-out space at the Hudson Street location. The menu is equally as festive, with beverages like an espresso martini, Sour Patch watermelon drink, and other spirited spirits (very sorry, had to). There are plenty of photo ops in the downstairs bar too for anyone looking to snap a 21+ style holiday card.

About The Waiting Room

The Waiting Room is located at 72 Hudson Street in the former Bobbleheads space. Former MLB pitcher and local bar owner Pat Light expanded his ownership in downtown Hoboken in late summer adding The Waiting Room. Pat’s ownership group, The Light Group, is also behind Green Rock Tap + Grill, Texas Arizona, McSwiggan’s, 80 River Street (which is now the River Street Garage), and Saku, all in Hoboken.

The Waiting Room is looking to establish a fine reputation as “The Ultimate Starting Point” according to the bar’s Instagram account.

Before its new ownership, The Waiting Room was known by many other names Hoboken regulars may have been familiar with. Bobbleheads was the most recent name with several different historic/pop culture bobbleheads displayed throughout the bar and featured live music weekly. Before that, the bar was known as Winston, and also The Ugly Irishman.

The Waiting Room and its new staff have joined in on the fall fun in Hoboken with a combination of nightlife and Sunday Funday during football season, which are known favorites in Hoboken.

Neighborhood Update

Just a few steps away from The Waiting Room is 80 River Street, which also underwent a makeover of sorts. HG reported earlier this fall that the bar had plans to rebrand into a vintage, garage-style bar with an emphasis on live music called The River Street Garage.

Pat Light, owner of River Street Garage, shared with The Hoboken Girl: “Music has always been a huge part of Hoboken’s storied history and our vision for River Street Garage was to combine the raw energy of live bands with the vibrancy of downtown.” He went on to share that “garages have long been the backdrop for countless memories and conversations among friends and we invite our customers to join us for some good music, good vibes, and good times.”

The bar officially became the River Street Garage on September 8th, 2023 with live music from New Jersey-based cover band Aftershock.
