Jon P moved to Kuwait when he was 24 to pursue new opportunities after receiving a call from a college friend there. He spoke to a recruiter on a Friday who was looking for trainers with Western experience, and by that Sunday, he was on a plane to Kuwait. He now thinks of the move as one of the best decisions of his life. His fitness career began there with training clients in their homes and in outdoor parks called “Mamshas,” and the rest is history.

Fast-forward some years later to 2020, and Jon opened Stop Crying Studios in Hoboken, located at 564 1st Streetwhich by its name has naturally piqued the interest of many of our readers.

The Background

Jon started his training career in college when he was 19, and then went on to work in Physical Therapy in New Jersey. PT was something Jon valued as vital work, but, he says, “I knew I wanted to make a jump to something more exciting.”

From the inception of his first studio in 2016 in Salwa, Kuwait, the coach made sure to collaborate with the larger brands and well-known influencers in order for him to reach the widest possible audience.

He trained R&B singer Ryan Leslie throughout his several month European tour and even went on to work with several members of the Royal family of Kuwait and US military personnel. The outdoor bootcamps became so popular that Jon decided to invest in his first members-only studio which later merged with Lilly Whites, a large British fitness company, due to the success of his hybrid program.

The most in-demand classes at Stop Crying Studios include boxing, strength and conditioning, toning, kickboxing, and online Zoom classes. Additional offerings include private training classes and complete nutrition assistance. “We stress the importance of our nutrition programming because we find that most new members are confused with eating the right quantity and quality of foods for their specific goals and aesthetic needs,” said Coach Jon P.

The studio provides macronutrient calculation and a premiere nutrition program that includes a 14-day plant-based menu built on the member’s goals while also focusing on behavior remodeling.

Jon P says his secret to success is the ability to connect with his members on their level. Local studio members include influencers @littlemissfoodie and Daria DeLuccia @Hoboken_eats, and he stays true to working with local influencers to spread the word.

About the Name

On the name front, Jon simply shared, “I thought of the studio name organically to encourage trainees to keep pushing forward.”

The Future

In under a year, the studio is near capacity, but Coach Jon P has a few more openings in his private classes. There is also some availability for classes with Coach Corey (@coreysmiffson).
