The Retreat Cannabis

The year was 2016, and many businesses we know as Hoboken staples today were just getting their start. A lot has changed in the Mile Square since then. However, 2016 was the beginning of a love fest with 11 businesses that have stood the test of time, including a global pandemic, countless water main breaks, and an often transient community. We’ve rounded up a list of businesses that are celebrating ten years in Hoboken this year. Read on to see which businesses have officially called Hoboken home for a decade.

Disclaimer: We know there are lots of businesses that have been in Hoboken for longer than 10 years and have covered them on various occasions. This article is to highlight those who are currently celebrating the decade milestone.

Baking Mama | 88 Hudson Street

Tina Rivera, the owner of Baking Mama, is well known for her sweet treats and even sweeter personality. After a career in finance, Tina decided that she wanted to take a different career path and decided to open a small bakery on Hudson Street. Since 2016, Tina and her family have taken the Mile Square by storm, earning accolades like Best Cookie in the Hoboken Girl Best Of series (multiple times!) and Best Chocolate Chip Cookie in New Jersey from Yelp. Since opening in 2016, the Rivera family has temporarily expanded Baking Mama to a larger facility on Observer Highway and opened Hey Coffee People, a coffee shop on Garden Street.

It’s hard to imagine a Hoboken before Grand Vin, considering it has become one of the city’s top recommended spots by locals over the last ten years. It’s even won “Best Cocktail” in the HG Annual Best Of competition determined entirely by readers’ votes. Over the years, Grand Vin has captured the hearts of many with various wine-focused events and its upscale, yet super-friendly environment. The ambiance gives a fancy NYC vibe, yet still feels familiar and friendly.

Halifax | 225 River Street

halifax hoboken

Located inside the W Hoboken hotel, Halifax has become a mainstay in the Mile Square and for good reason. Chef Shouse and his team have been serving a farm-to-table menu inspired by Chef’s Canadian roots since opening in 2016, just seven years after the hotel opened its doors. Today, the restaurant is known for its incredibly popular brunch options, elevated yet casual dinner, and, of course, the waterfront views.

Ke Ming Restaurant | 1006 Washington Street

Ke Ming Restaurant is one of Hoboken’s gems hidden in plain sight. Ke Ming serves up some of Hoboken’s most authentic Chinese American cuisine. The restaurant is known for its Sichuan-style food that has been keeping guests coming back for 10 years. Fair warning: Sichuan food is known to really bring the spice, so if you can’t handle the heat, be sure to have a glass of water ready. Before opening, the owners found that there was a gap in the industry with no sit-down Chinese restaurants in town. They were clearly onto something and have won customers over for a decade.

Kodak Jewelry Flagship Store | 1123 Maxwell Place

“Where Hoboken Gets Engaged” has been W. Kodak Jewelry’s Flagship Store’s tagline for the past ten years. The popular jeweler has been serving Hoboken since the 1970s, but opened its flagship location in June of 2016. While it is mostly known for high-end pieces, the team has also jumped on offering more trendy pieces through the years, like Alex + Ani bracelets.

Noellery | 123 Washington Street

Noellery-Sign-Genna-Rossi

Noellery has been charming gift givers for a decade with trinkets, jewelry, and assorted accessories. It’s a great spot for shopping for yourself, your best friend, a bridal or baby shower, or for a just-because gift. Every time shoppers enter, they can expect to find something new, but always with a girly, fun flair.

O’Bagel | 600 Washington Street

O’Bagel

O’Bagel has been curing Hoboken residents and visitors of hangovers for a decade, and we thank them for their service. This corner joint has truly grown up with the community. Over the past ten years, the business has expanded with several locations opening throughout NJ, and the menu has consistently improved. The owners have also added another business to Hoboken, Mile Square Cafe, which opened in 2025 and has many nods to the bagel shop on its menu.

Sorellina Italian Kitchen + Wine Bar | 1036 Washington Street

Gabi Lombardi’s, owner of Sorellina and certified sommelier, inspiration behind this classic Italian spot is her own family. As a sorellina (Italian for little sister) herself, she wanted the restaurant to be a nod to her family as well as the way that good food can bring people together. Sorellina is well known for its pasta dishes and lineup of wines. The wine events throughout the year always keep people coming back for more.

The Shepherd + The Knucklehead | 1313 Willow Avenue

The Shepherd + Knucklehead

The Shepherd + The Knucklehead, or “The Shep” as it’s lovingly called by locals, has been an uptown go-to for any televised sporting event. Known for one of the largest beer selections on tap in town, this sports bar knows how to entertain a crowd. In recent years, it’s even become known as a top choice for private events like graduation parties, birthday celebrations, and baby showers. Owner Joe Schiavo and his team ensure that a great time is had by all every time a customer comes in, making it no surprise that they have stayed standing for a decade.

Two01 Hair Salon | 728 Grand Street

Two01 Hair Salon is owned and operated by a woman who knows a thing or two about Hoboken. Ashley Branda, a Hobokenite since birth, opened her salon in 2016 and has been booked ever since. Her clients love her larger-than-life personality and, of course, always leave the salon feeling beautiful and well taken care of.

Urban Coalhouse | 116 14th Street

Urban Coalhouse Pizza + Bar

Urban Coalhouse began calling Hoboken home in 2016. Along with two other NJ locations, it’s a go-to for artisan and coal-fired pizzas, salads, and drinks. The restaurant is always up to something fun with trivia nights, bingo, and “name that tune” competitions. The Hoboken location also offers a weekend brunch.
