7 New Businesses Opening in Jersey City Heights in 2026

From eateries to children’s spaces to a sorely missed neighborhood staple, the Jersey City Heights neighborhood is welcoming many new businesses in 2026. The Heights, while always known for its diversity, has recently grown a lot in popularity, and this is best seen in the family-friendly spots popping up that offer community for both parents and their kids. Other new businesses include the long-awaited opening of a popular cafe, a halal burger restaurant, and a Japanese and Korean cuisine restaurant. Also, after many months of renovation, the Heights is happy to welcome the return of the Heights Branch Library. Vein Institute

Created by parents Laura and Jeff, Cub and Fox Playhouse is designed as a safe and large indoor playground for kids and a place for parents to relax with a cup of coffee and socialize with other parents. The Playhouse will have aesthetics inspired by the Hudson Valley landscapes, soft textures, and natural shapes to create a relaxing environment away from city life. Cub and Fox Playhouse are opening in summer 2026, with more details to be announced.

 

 

The Station Hoboken

Hybrid Coffee | 573 Palisade Avenue

Along with its two locations, one in Mana Contemporary at 888 Newark Avenue and another at 398 Manila Avenue, Hybrid Coffee will be opening its third location in the Heights very soon. Owner Evan Santiago originally started Hybrid Coffee as a mobile coffee cart and has expanded into a brick-and-mortar business with a kitchen and pastry menu, which includes its well-known avocado toast.

Hudson City Kids is a pop-up children’s clothing shop turned into a brick-and-mortar storefront. Founded by a local Jersey City mom and opening in Spring 2026, the store will have unique and colorful clothes for kids while hosting mom groups, workshops, and other events to provide a community space for parents.

JCPL Heights Branch Library | 14 Zabriskie Street

If you’re a local to the Heights, you may be aware that the Heights Branch Library has been closed for several months due to major renovations. In the February monthly update email sent to their mailing list, the Jersey City Free Public Library has confirmed some exciting news. Renovations are almost complete, and the team anticipates reopening on Wednesday, March 25th. The exterior work includes a restored front facade, stairs, and an accessibility ramp, and interior work includes a new layout, new furniture, and an upgraded heating and cooling system.

Smash & Zingers | 408 Central Avenue

Smash & Zingers is a burger restaurant that claims to reinvent the burger experience with its “smash” technique to create the perfect sear. With a variety of flavors, including Aalu Tikki and Tamarind chutney, Smash & Zingers brings a curated, specialty menu to the Heights. There are beef, chicken, and veggie burger options, and all the meat is halal.

Spark Place | 411 Palisade Avenue, 1st Floor

Designed by local parents from the Heights, Spark Place serves entertainment for kids, coffee for their caregivers, and socialization for everyone. The nature-inspired space has an open play area for ages 6 and under, and caregivers can supervise from nearby with access to the cafe. Sparks Place also has a space for parties and classes, such as their weekly classes for ages 2-6 on Wednesdays and Thursdays. While walk-ins are welcome, they are not guaranteed and it is recommended to book a session in advance.

Yakitame Bento and Katsu | 501 Central Avenue

Yakitame is a Japanese and Korean fusion restaurant with a variety of menu items, including bento boxes, rice bowls, fried chicken, ramen, and more. The name Yakitame is derived from the Japanese words “yaki,” meaning grilled, and “itame,” meaning stir-fried. The restaurant originally started in Morris Plains in 2022 under the name Kiori Japanese Kitchen and ran for 2+ years, earning 1st place in Restaurant Guru’s 2023 restaurant vote. In January 2026, owner Nick reopened in Jersey City Heights, promising a more diverse menu and delicious flavors.
