Working from home presents a new set of challenges but with a few tweaks, you can feel well-adjusted in no time. We believe the key to success while working from home is structure. First and foremost, start your day as early as you normally would: get up, shower, get dressed, and make your bed. These little wins help in framing a positive mindset. Don’t underestimate the sense of accomplishment you receive from a little win like making the bed.
To ensure you stay on track to accomplish daily tasks, write out your to-do list and set check-in times to see how you are progressing. You can also implement the time blocking technique, in which you block times in your calendar for specific activities. There are so many great platforms and apps available to help keep you + your team on track throughout the day. Pro tip: Don’t forget to build in time for breaks such as meditation, fitness, or whatever else you might need to recover and re-center from those mid-day slumps.

Create a Clean Space
Whether you have a traditional desk or not, your dedicated work zone should be cleared of papers, knickknacks, and other nonessential supplies. Find a space where you have the best lighting, and if possible, it comes from a natural source like a window. There are physical benefits such as reduced eye strain and therefore, fewer headaches when you work near natural light. But there is also a mental component that comes into play. Good natural lighting helps to release serotonin, which enhances your overall mood, while also boosting vitamin D levels.
In a time when we are constantly bombarded by messages, notifications, and advertisements, it is important to disconnect when you need to focus. Also, be sure to remove any electronics that can distract you. Instead, surround yourself with plants, a candle, or soothing music. These small elements have been proven to positively impact productivity by enhancing focus and concentration. A 2015 study conducted by Harvard’s School of Public Health showed that design plays a role in increased cognitive function, thereby resulting in a “profound impact on the decision-making performance of workers.”
Prepare Your Space
At the start of your workday, ensure that any supplies you might need are readily accessible. This will prevent interruptions to your workflow and therefore distractions that might be caused by searching for items like a pen or notebook. Just remember to only keep the necessities out and stock surplus elsewhere.

Declare An End to Your Day
