Our area might be best known for fresh mutz, pizza, and bagels — so when there’s a legit BBQ restaurant making us feel like we’re in Texas, we gotta take advantage. Hoboken is already familiar with this popular joint on Sinatra Drive and now our friends in Weehawken are getting a taste of House of ‘Que’s southern charm with a Jersey-flair.

Location

The new House of ‘Que is conveniently located directly across the street from the Port Imperial ferry stop {at 500 Avenue at Port Imperial, to be exact}. It’s just a short Uber ride from Hoboken or Jersey City and is near other hot night-life spots making it an ideal location to enjoy all-night-long or as a stop amongst others during a night on the town. Dine while gazing at spectacular views of the NYC skyline that’s sure to impress locals and out-of-town guest alike.

Atmosphere

House of Que has struck the perfect balance between down-home comfort and big city swag. Enjoy a full, Texas-style meal in a booth with a large group of friends or try one of the signature cocktails in “The Pit” — House of ‘Que’s unique, sunken bar that is on a separate, lower, level from the dining area. Just like the Hoboken location, House of ‘Que Weehawken will be hosting signature events weekly — think dueling pianos, trivia, live music, and sports.

Food & Drinks

Sure the drinks are good, but House of ‘Que’s food menu does not disappoint what so ever. Their tagline, “we only smoke the good stuff,” couldn’t be more accurate. The menu is broken down by category to make ordering super easy. We had a chance to check out the menu at the grand opening event.

The pork belly and State Roll of Texas were two of our faves. Any proper BBQ restaurant will have some form of pork, but House of Que gets the pork belly app just right. The meat is tender and embodies all the classic flavors of Texas. Filled with smoky chicken, black beans, cheese, roasted corn, peppers, the State Roll of Texas is conveniently served in a fried egg roll shell with chipotle BBQ ranch on the side.

For entrees, there are a plethora of options. For salads and sandwiches — choose from healthier options like the loaded wedge or HOQ salad or go all out with a smoky baked potato loaded with butter, sour cream and bacon. One of House of Que’s most famous dishes is the Pulled Pork Sandwich — a Texas BBQ staple. Tender meat seasoned to perfection with 2-step BBQ sauce will have you licking your fingers until the last bite. If family-style is in order, try one of the combos. Options run from parties of two through eight and each comes with meat options and sides. Our favorite sides include the corn pudding and southern sweet potatoes {because nothing beats that combo of sweet + savory}. But you prefer all savory, give the collard greens or bbq beans a try.

The new Weehawken location boasts an extensive cocktail menu made with happy hour favorites like Misunderstood Whiskey, Tito’s Vodka and Jack Daniel’s to name a few. Drinks in “The Pit,” are fun for happy hour, catching up with friends, or a girls night out.
