A new breakfast spot serving all things bagels has soft opened on Washington Street in Hoboken. Located in the former Jerrell’s Betr Brgr space at 324 Washington Street. A woman walking home in Hoboken on Sunday, October 5th reported a case of criminal sexual contact in downtown Hoboken. A Hoboken Police Department spokeswoman confirmed the incident and the ongoing investigation. An on-scene investigation determined an unknown male approached an individual and touched her inappropriately. Hoboken Police believe this case is isolated and it remains under investigation by the HPD Detective Bureau. Click here for more.

A new golf simulator venue is coming to Jersey City, and it is from a team of familiar faces. Hudson Golf, an already-established local favorite for indoor golf in Hoboken, announced this week that it is expanding to Chilltown. India’s La Pino’z Pizza to Take Over Former Monteleone’s Space in Jersey City

India-based La Pino’z Pizza is building out their latest shop in Jersey City. Construction work has officially begun at 741 Newark Avenue at the ground floor of the property, which was previously home to Monteleone Bakery. Per Jersey Digs, La Pino’z Pizza calls itself India’s fastest growing pizza company. It serves Indian-inspired pies like a paneer tikka butter masala pizza and its “Burn To Hell” pie is known for its fiery heat.

MilkShake Factory, a dessert chain known for handspun milkshakes and small batch, premium chocolates, is coming to New Jersey with three newly announced locations set to open over the next year. Per Jersey Digs, the chain, which is based in the Midwest, announced its first store in the state will debut this fall at 177 Newark Avenue in Jersey City. Additional locations will open at 187 Columbia Turnpike in Florham Park and 189 West Main Street in Somerville. Its milkshake flavors include fan favorites like Chocolate Dipped Strawberry and Campfire S’mores.

Sources close to the Urban Market group, the team behind Hoboken Market, located at 1425 Washington Street, shared exclusively with The Hoboken Girl that they will open a grocery store downtown. The owner of Perquin, a Latin American restaurant in Jersey City with Honduran and Ecuadorian roots, shared with the Hoboken Girl that it will be reopening soon. The restaurant is set to open on October 14th at 84 1/2 Morris Street, in the old pizzeria space in Paulus Hook across from the old location. Perquin briefly closed earlier this summer as they were in a temporary space. Now patrons can expect breakfast and different Latin American coffees, horchata lattes, smoothies, juices, and some new dishes like Salvadoran quesadillas, pastelitos de guayaba (Cuban guava + cheese pastries), and Bolivian Salteñas (baked beef breakfast empanadas).


Hoboken’s Annual Harvest Festival is Happening on 10/18

The City of Hoboken, in partnership with the Hoboken Business Alliance (HBA), invites residents and visitors to enjoy the annual Harvest Festival on October 18th, from 12PM-5PM at Pier A Park and South Waterfront Walkway. Per a City of Hoboken press release, this free, family-friendly event is a Hoboken fall tradition, featuring an afternoon of festive activities, live entertainment, local food, and craft vendors. The Ghost of Uncle Joe’s, an annual graveyard masquerade ball in Jersey City, will be making its comeback on October 24th and 25th at Harsimus Cemetery, located at 435 Newark Avenue. The festival includes live music featuring tribute bands consisting of local performers, drinks, food, and after parties. New Data Center Arrives in Secaucus to Meet AI Energy Demands

A new data center facility, NY3, has been built in Secaucus, New Jersey. The center, built by CoreSite, is intended to support the company’s other New York-area data centers, NY1 in Manhattan and NY2 in Secaucus. CoreSite announced the completion of its most recent facility, NY3, on September 25th, 2025. The enormous center spans across more than 138,000 square feet. The center will have liquid-cooling capabilities to enable AI platforms’ speed and overall performance. Data centers with cooling technology like NY3 have been popping up around the country to meet AI software’s electricity demands, accompanied by concerns about energy and water consumption. On October 6th around 8:05PM, a man tried to break into The Hair Room in Jersey City while staff was closing up the salon. The Hair Room shared via Instagram that when the door didn’t budge, he started swinging a makeshift weapon at the window for over a minute, trying to smash his way through. The team ran and hid in the backyard, trapped with no way out except over a fence. The men responsible for the incident were eventually arrested.

Mayor Ravi Bhalla, the City of Hoboken, and the Hoboken Green Team recognized 16 local businesses for their commitment to sustainability during its annual Green Fair on October 4th. Per a City of Hoboken press release, as part of the Hoboken Green Business Recognition Program, these 16 businesses were honored for implementing eco-conscious practices, including reducing waste, recycling hard-to-recycle materials, using energy-efficient lighting, purchasing in bulk to reduce packaging waste, and actively participating in environmental causes. Each business received a certificate, a Hoboken Green Business decal to display in their storefronts, a digital version for online use, and recognition on the city’s website.


Community and Legislators Unite to Support Heights University Hospital

Community members and legislators came together to show their support for keeping Heights University Hospital open. Per a Hudson Regional Hospital press release, a community rally was held on October 8th at 11AM outside Heights University Hospital, 176 Palisades Avenue, bringing together residents, employees, and local leaders to demonstrate a united commitment to the hospital’s future. Senator Raj Mukahji, Assemblyman John Allen, Senator Brian Stack, and Senator Sandra Cunningham McKnight introduced the proposal for a $25 million appropriation to stabilize Heights University Hospital.

Mayor Steven Fulop will join the Office of Cultural Affairs, the Department of Recreation and Youth Development, and the Jersey City arts community to celebrate the 11th anniversary of the Jersey City Youth Mural Arts Program (JCYMAP). The 2025 celebration will take place on October 16th from 5PM-8PM at Mana Contemporary, 888 Newark Avenue. We Build This LLC, a female-led real estate development company founded by Naomi Wasserman and Michal Hod Kohav, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 8th at 12PM to mark the completion of 332 Whiton Street in Bergen-Lafayette. Per a City of Jersey City press release, We Build This, LLC purchased this property from the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency (JCRA) in May 2022. The property has been transformed into a boutique three-unit building, two of which have already sold, with one unit remaining available for purchase.

Reyansh Vohra, a 12-year old Hoboken resident, has been into tech for a long time and saved up enough money to buy a 3D printer. He has been printing a lot of fun things and wanted to start a small business. He set up his stand at the Hudson Tea lawns on October 5th from 3PM-5PM and received a great response from neighbors. Hoboken Runs Again for Best Buddies Champion of the Year Award

Best Buddies is an international nonprofit dedicated to creating opportunities for friendship, leadership, and employment for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. One of the ways it celebrates those making a real difference is through its Champion of the Year award, which recognizes individuals and communities that go above and beyond to advance inclusion. Last year, Hoboken High School had an incredible winner, Kristen Beriloff, a teacher who has dedicated her life to fostering inclusion. Partnership for New York City announced on October 6th that Steven Fulop will serve as its next President and Chief Executive Officer. The selection of Fulop was voted on and confirmed by the Partnership’s Search Committee, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors. Fulop will succeed outgoing President and CEO Kathryn S. Wylde. Wylde has led the organization since 2000, and has been a pillar of New York’s civic and political life for decades. Fulop currently serves as the Mayor of Jersey City.


Hoboken Residents Rescue Kitten from Morocco

Two Hoboken residents are finishing a rescue mission that started halfway across the world. While visiting a camp in the Agafay Desert near Marrakech, a Hoboken couple met a small kitten named Zahra. She was thin, hungry, and suffering from tapeworms, but she followed them everywhere. When they realized there was no local shelter, they spent days contacting veterinarians across the region. Only one agreed to help. The vet drove one and a half hours to the camp, found the kitten, vaccinated her, and personally completed the paperwork that would allow her to fly. With the support of donations from the community, enough funds were raised for her care and travel home. This weekend, Zahra will fly from Morocco to her new home in Hoboken.


Unsafe Parking Violations Decrease with CLEAR Program in Hoboken

Within the first month of the CLEAR program’s launch, the City of Hoboken saw a 71 percent reduction in double parking in the bike lane, a 26 percent reduction in bus stop violations, and a 76 percent reduction in loading zone violations on downtown Washington Street. Per a City of Hoboken press release, the CLEAR initiative is part of the city’s Vision Zero campaign to eliminate all traffic-related injuries and deaths by 2030. The program uses camera-assisted enforcement to reduce dangerous and illegal parking behaviors that contribute to congestion, obstruct emergency response, and put vulnerable road users at risk.


Hoboken Council Passes Resolution to Withdraw Lawsuit Against Blue Violets

The Hoboken City Council passed a resolution calling for the withdrawal of the lawsuit against Blue Violets cannabis dispensary and the Planning Board by perennial city council candidate Elizabeth Urtecho and her interest group, “Hoboken for Responsible Cannabis.” The resolution ultimately passed 4-3-1 with 2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher, 1st Ward Councilman Paul Presinzano, and 4th Ward Councilman Ruben Ramos voting no, and Council President Jim Doyle abstaining.


Hoboken Public Library Therapy Dog’s Upcoming Volunteer Dates

Riley Maverick Mills, an English Cream Golden Retriever who her owner, Lindsay Mills, calls “the most gentle angel,” volunteers at the Hoboken Public Library every month, providing emotional support to children learning to read. Riley will volunteer at the library on the following dates: October 12th at 1PM (Park Avenue location), November 1st at 2PM (Grand Street location), November 2nd at 2PM (Park Ave location), and December 6th at 2PM (Park Avenue location). Her owner Kindsay shared with the Hoboken Girl that she’s been giving out Riley swag each month and the children really enjoy it. Click here for more.


Major Book Supplier, Baker and Taylor, to Close

 

Hoboken Public Library (HPL) shared via Facebook that its longtime book partner, Baker & Taylor, will be closing its doors. This unexpected change is affecting libraries nationwide. This will cause occasional delays in the arrival of new books. Behind the scenes, the HPL team is working to ensure that authors, series, and new releases continue to be available.


Vehicle Strikes Multiple Juveniles in Jersey City Hit-And-Run Incident

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department (JCPD) are investigating a hit-and-run crash that injured multiple juveniles on October 6th. Per a Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office press release, shortly after 5PM, the JCPD was notified of multiple individuals struck by a vehicle on Wilkinson Avenue between Ocean Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Responding officers located four male juveniles ages 13, 17, 15, and 17, all of Jersey City who were struck by a vehicle. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene. All four juveniles were transported to Jersey City Medical Center to be treated for various injuries. The vehicle suspected of being involved in the collision was recovered. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous tip here.
