Inside Bangalore Kitchen, a New Indian Restaurant in Jersey City

The Retreat Cannabis

There’s a smell of something new and delicious in the air, and it might just be the aromatic spices from Bangalore Kitchen, a new Indian restaurant that opened in April in Jersey City at 126 River Street. Bangalore Kitchen brings together traditional South Indian flavors, hearty North Indian curries, and bold wok-fired Indo-Chinese cuisine, capturing the best of India’s diverse palate all under one roof. The Hoboken Girl chatted with the owners to learn more about their story, the inspiration behind their new restaurant, and standout dishes everyone should add to their must-try list. Read on for more about Bangalore Kitchen.

Journey to Bangalore Kitchen

Husband and wife team Raghu and Sunita Gowda are the owners of Bangalore Kitchen, which is their fourth business in Jersey City. Raghu started his first business in 2016, a food truck called Dosa Spot. “Dosa making was always my passion, and my friends and family loved my dosas and kept asking for more, and that’s when I realized, I might have something here,” says Raghu.

After winning over tastebuds in the neighborhood, the duo added a permanent spot at Newport Mall in 2022. In July 2025, they opened their third business, also in the Newport Mall, called Indian Wraps, which specializes in kathi rolls and wraps.

About Bangalore Kitchen

Both Raghu and Sunita are from Southern India and wanted to bring traditional flavors to the forefront in their next project. “When talks for Bangalore Kitchen began, the vision was very different. But as the space and team came together, the concept evolved into something much larger” Raghu said.

Bangalore Kitchen is a new adventure for the two. The Newport restaurant is a full-service, 60-person sit-down spot with a bar. The bar features local spirits, fine Indian rum and whiskey blends, and Indian-inspired mocktails like rose milk and mango lassi.

The Station Hoboken

The goal is to serve delicious and traditional home-cooked meals from Bangalore — think pappu, a lentil soup with greens and spices, Idly & Dosa, Curries & Naan. The menu also features Indo-Chinese, a beloved culinary taste across India that puts a distinctly Indian twist on Asian dishes with bold spices and fiery sauces.

For Raghu, the devil is in the details and presentation sits at the heart of everything. Be the color and design of the food truck, the sugar-to-milk ratio in the filter coffee, or the exact crispiness of a dosa. He takes every detail seriously, and it shows in every bite.

From crispy dosas to household-style biryani you’d get at a local home in Bangalore, from wok-fried Indo-Chinese dishes to hearty naan and curries, there’s a lot to try, and all of it is delicious. To make the selection easy on what to order, we asked the owners, Raghu & Sunita for their top recommendations.

What to Order at Bangalore Kitchen

Dosa

Dosa is a popular South Indian breakfast item — though there’s no wrong time to have one. It is a crepe-like texture made from fermented rice and lentil batter, served with coconut chutney and tomato-lentil soup called ‘sambar’. While the Benne Masala Dosa is a true taste of Bangalore, spice lovers should go straight for the Mysore Masala Dosa.

Biryani

While dosa is undoubtedly the star of the show, the biryani is a showstopper in its own right. The Donne Biryani is different from the traditional biryanis usually served at restaurants. The mutton is cooked with traditional spices and jeera-samba rice in a sealed pot, allowing it to absorb the flavors, and infused with the chef’s secret masala, slow-cooked to perfection.

Filter Coffee

Filter coffee is more than just caffeine in South India — it’s an emotion and daily ritual that people bond over. Served in traditional steel tumblers, this drink strikes the right balance of coffee, sugar, and milk. If you’re lucky, you might have Raghu, the star Barista himself, pouring you one.
