Hoboken is home to many great murals that commemorate the city’s culture, important local figures, and more. Ricardo Roig, an acclaimed Hoboken artist and native, will be bringing another to the city at Willow House at 14th Street + Willow Avenue. The mural, which will celebrate Hoboken’s hospitality culture and sense of community, will be 28-foot-by-18-foot and is currently underway. Read on to learn about Ricardo Roig’s new mural at Willow House in Hoboken.
The Details
Ricardo Roig is a longtime Hoboken resident, having moved to the city in 2007. He developed a reputation in the art community over time, acclaimed for his unique designs, signature hand-cut + spray-painted style, and for opening the Roig Collection gallery at W Hotel in Hoboken in 2015. Several of Ricardo’s murals can be found across the city, and it has been announced that he is in the process of painting another.
The new mural will be located at Willow House, on the intersection of 14th Street + Willow Avenue. It will represent Hoboken’s hospitality culture and sense of community, depicting “a lively, Great Gatsby-inspired cocktail-party scene featuring musicians, diners and guests,” according to a press release. It will feature Ricardo’s signature hand-cut technique, previously used on murals such as Hoboken Hero at 1012 Grand Street and Hoboken Color at 133 Clinton Street.
“The mural is really a celebration of the spirit of Hoboken,” Ricardo shared. “It’s inspired by years of living, working, and making art here — the restaurants, the music, the people, and the moments that make this city special.”
There is no specific date for when it will be completed, but it is expected to be finished in the upcoming weeks.
