Aspen Market Closes in Hoboken Due to Stop Work Order

On July 16th, 2025, a stop work order was placed on the outside of Aspen Marketplace in Hoboken at 226-228 Washington Street. The sign was issued by the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development due to a failure to comply with wage and hour laws. According to the store’s Google listing, it looks as if Aspen Marketplace is permanently closed. Click here for more.
Hoboken Announces PATH Closure 8/28-9/2 for Urgent Repairs

PATH announced on August 8th that from 11:59PM on Thursday, August 28th to 5AM on Tuesday, September 2nd, the Hoboken PATH station will be closed for urgent repairs to the track and interlocking system that enables PATH trains to switch tracks and access different platforms at the station. Per a Nixle alert, during this closure, the Port Authority has coordinated with NJ TRANSIT, NY Waterway, and other transportation partners to provide alternative transportation options for commuters and PATH customers. To stay up to date, PATH riders are strongly encouraged to use the free-to-download RidePATH app, sign up for alerts, and follow PATH on social media. New Coffee, Waffle, + Crepe Shop Opens in Hoboken
The Little Mingo, a coffee, waffle, and crepe shop, is now open in the former Sub Master location at 305 1st Street in Hoboken. The new cafe will host a Grand Opening party on Sunday, August 10th. Little Mingo promises “a fun day filled with crepe and waffle samples, complimentary drip coffee, DJ performance, good vibes, and a chance to connect with our community,” the team shared with HG. Developer Approved for Hoboken’s Garage B Project
The Hoboken City Council approved a developer for the redevelopment of Garage B. According to the Hudson County View, the council voted at its August 7th meeting to approve Skylight Residential Group Acquisitions, LLC as the developer of the mixed-use project that will add residential units, including affordable housing, to the site. Primark Opening Inside Jersey City’s Newport Centre Mall on 8/14

Adam Sandler Spends Summer in New Jersey for Netflix Movie Roommates
Since late June, Adam Sandler has been seen dining at restaurants, playing pick-up basketball with local teens, and giving iconic New Jersey spots a Hollywood makeover as he and his production team at Happy Madison Productions turn them into film sites for his new Netflix movie, Roommates. 2 More Italian Festivals Coming to Hoboken + Jersey City

If you missed St. Ann’s Feast this year, there are two more Italian festivals happening in Hoboken and Jersey City this summer. La Festa Italiana will take place in Jersey City from August 13th through 17th, while the Hoboken Italian Festival will kick off on September 4th and run through the 7th. Click here for more.
7th Street Burger Relocating to Former Sticky’s Space in Hoboken
After two years at 410 Washington Street, 7th Street Burger is moving its Hoboken location further downtown. Signage spotted at 112 Washington Street indicates that the NYC burger chain is taking over the former Sticky’s location, which closed in February of this year. 7th Street confirmed these plans with the HG team, citing a desire for a bigger space as the reason for the address change. Hoboken Urby Breaks Ground Near Lackawanna Terminal

Back in 2024, plans for a Hoboken Urby were officially approved, and now, the project has broken ground as of August 2025. The building will be located at 265 Observer Highway, just steps from the Hoboken Terminal. This project is one of many projects underway or soon to be underway in this corner of Hoboken. 2.7 Magnitude Earthquake Felt in Hillsdale, New Jersey

Transit Company Proposes Cross-Country Route from Hoboken to LA
Private transit company AmeriStarRail has proposed plans for a cross-country rail route with service from Hoboken to LA via a new train called The Transcontinental Chief. The company is currently seeking a partnership with Amtrak to bring this project to life by May 2026. Click here for more.
New Dispensary Soft Opens in West Side Jersey City
A new dispensary recently soft-opened in Jersey City. Lady L Cannabis is located at 547 West Side Avenue, features curated cannabis offerings, and is open 7 days a week. A grand opening celebration will take place soon.
Former Hoboken Residents Raise Awareness About Rare Disorder

New Jersey residents Tim and Kelsey Drury recently shared on social media that their two-year-old son Jack has been diagnosed with a rare disorder called Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (INAD). This extremely rare genetic disorder gets progressively worse at a rapid pace. As of right now, there are only 36 known cases of INAD in the world and his doctors say that the chances of a child getting it is 1 in 1 million. Following this heartbreaking news, Tim and Kelsey decided to join forces with the INADCure Foundation and are currently working with a drug manufacturer to produce a gene therapy that can potentially stop or slow Jack’s symptoms. Hoboken Unveils New Mural by Local Artist at City Hall

A ribbon cutting was held on August 7th at City Hall to unveil artwork by local artist Jason Sagat. Per a City of Hoboken press release, “Layers,” the new mural was installed in the main lobby of Hoboken City Hall at 94 Washington Street. The mural celebrates Hoboken’s iconic waterfront and features a large-scale photographic composition by Jason, who is known for his unique ability to blend color, texture, and imagery into works of art.
Jersey City Police Officer Convicted of Official Misconduct
On July 30th, a Hudson County jury returned a guilty verdict against a Jersey City Police Officer in connection with multiple acts of official misconduct. Page Rivera, 35, was convicted of committing multiple acts of official misconduct relating to her position as a sworn Jersey City Police Officer. The acts of official misconduct included Rivera’s non-performance of duties as well as the commitment of unauthorized acts, such as hindering the detention, apprehension, investigation, and prosecution of a fugitive, Frederick Womack, by harboring or concealing Womack in connection with a shooting investigation. The court remanded the defendant into custody pending sentencing which is tentatively scheduled for October 10, 2025.
Museum of Jersey City History Celebrates LGBTQIA+ for Pride Month

The Museum of Jersey City History will celebrate 25 years of LGBTQIA+ history as part of Pride Month. A Pride flag raising and opening reception took place on August 2nd at the museum and featured artifacts from 25 years of Jersey City Pride, Venus Pellagatti Xtravaganza, and a special presentation of the Curious Matter Erasure Gallery project. The exhibit will be open Wednesdays and Saturdays between 1PM and 5PM or by appointment, with a Pride Talk Series being held on Wednesdays at 7PM.
Fire Breaks Out at Newport PATH Station in Jersey City
Around 6:15AM on August 4th, a fire broke out underneath an Eastbound train at the Newport Station in Jersey City, filling the train with smoke. Passengers were evacuated onto the platform, and, according to CBS News, some clutched their chests as they exited the train; others received oxygen on-site, and a few were taken to the nearest hospital for smoke-related injuries. Eastbound Newark Street Closes in Hoboken for PSE&G Modernization Project
PSE&G began upgrading infrastructure on Newark Street between Henderson and Grove Streets near the Hoboken and Jersey City border on August 6th. Per a Nixle alert, to complete the work, eastbound Newark Street will be closed between the hours of 9AM and 3PM Monday through Friday, and 8AM to 4PM on Saturdays. Eastbound traffic will be diverted onto Grove Street and detoured onto 18th Street and Marin Boulevard/Henderson Street, to continue heading eastbound on Newark Street/Observer Highway. Westbound traffic will not be impacted. This work is anticipated to last approximately three weeks.

Albion Hotel to Face Lawsuit Following Jersey City Zoning Board Approval
Neighbors of a controversial Downtown hotel project are gearing up for a court battle following the issuance of the official written decision by the Jersey City Board of Adjustment, elaborating on its prior approval of the developer’s plan. Per the Jersey City Times, the boutique “Albion Hotel,” approved March 27th for the site of the former Capital One Bank building facing Jersey and Newark Avenues, has drawn fire from the Saffron Condo Association and Downtown neighborhood groups because of its planned height. An appeal is expected to be filed to challenge the zoning board ruling.

Hudson County Names New Prosecutor Following Esther Suarez’s Retirement

With Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez retiring on August 1st, First Assistant Prosecutor Wayne Mello has been named the new acting prosecutor, making him her immediate successor. Per the Hudson County View, Esther recently announced she would be retiring after a decade in the role and 25 years of service as a public employee. He will supervise the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office’s approximately 70 assistant prosecutors and more than 100 detectives as they investigate and prosecute major criminal cases involving violent crime, gun violence, narcotics distribution, cybercrimes, gang activity, and more.
Hoboken High School Breaks Record with 100+ 2025 AP Scholars
The Hoboken Public School District announced on August 6th that 105 Hoboken High School students have been recognized as AP Scholars for the 2024–2025 testing year. Per a Hoboken Public School District press release, the number of scholars is the highest in school history. This marks a dramatic rise in academic excellence and access to college-level coursework for students in the district.
Plans Submitted For 2,055-Unit, Three-Tower Project in Jersey City
A surface parking lot located in Downtown Jersey City could be transformed into a trio of high-rises that would bridge the gap between the Powerhouse Arts District and Exchange Place. Per Jersey Digs, Jersey City’s Planning Board still needs to hear and approve the project before construction can begin, and it’s unclear if any variances from current zoning will be needed to advance the plan. Real estate company Esen has stated that they anticipate construction to start on the first tower during the summer of 2026, with the building’s expected debut following in 2029.
