The Hoboken Girl Team 
Jersey City’s Newport Centre Mall has seen several new businesses open in recent months, with a few others coming soon — we even rounded them all up here earlier this year. Among the wave of new spots is Irish clothing retailer Primark, which has been in the works for a few years. The plans were first announced in 2023, and The Hoboken Girl confirmed in early 2024 that the store was still on track to open after some speculation. Now, we know that Primark will make its debut in Jersey City next Thursday, August 14th on the second level of the mall in the former Sears space. Grand Opening
Primark will officially open in Jersey City’s Newport Centre Mall on Thursday, August 14th, 2025, per a press release sent out this week. The clothing store will be hosting a series of events to kick off the store’s opening weekend, including live music from a local DJ, giveaways, and local treats. On Saturday, August 16th, there will also be special appearances from Bluey and Bingo at 10AM, 11AM, 1PM, and 2PM. More information can be found here.

Background on Primark’s Arrival in Jersey City
In July 2023, Jersey Digs reported that Primark was opening its next New Jersey location in Jersey City inside the Newport Centre Mall after coming across a social media post. At the time, Primark did not specify where it would be set up. Later that summer, a Reddit user shared the news that Primark was taking over the upper level of Sears.
According to a YouTube video, which showed the floor plan of Sears, Primark will occupy 35,700 square feet of space on the second floor. At the time of our reporting, the upper level was closed to the public, and the windows were completely covered, so it was unclear what was going on behind the closed doors.
In early 2024, there was a bit of speculation as to if Primark was still coming to Jersey City after the news of a forthcoming Dave + Buster’s was revealed and thought to be coming to the lower level of the Sears space. We now know that the first floor of the former department store will soon be a Dick’s House of Sport instead of a Dave + Buster’s, with Primark occupying the second floor retail space.
In February 2024, The Hoboken Girl confirmed that Primark still planned to open at the mall after all of the prior speculation. The fashion, home, and beauty brand confirmed this news via an email sent by a customer service representative. The message read: “We are excited to open our new store in Newport Mall soon. Unfortunately, there is no date set for the opening yet.”
The email continued: “We announce the opening date locally well in advance and also give an update on our store information page where all details will be shared in due course. Thank you very much for taking the time to write to us and for your interest in Primark. See you soon in New Jersey!”

There are over 400 stores in various countries with 25 being solely in the US. Jersey City will become Primark’s fourth location in New Jersey. The other three locations are inside the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, inside the Freehold Raceway Mall in Freehold, and inside the Mills at Jersey Gardens in Elizabeth.
