On July 16th, 2025, a stop work order was placed on the outside of Aspen Marketplace in Hoboken at 226-228 Washington Street. Given the nature of the sign, it appeared that it was issued by the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development due to a failure to comply with wage and hour laws. According to the store’s Google listing, it looks as if Aspen Marketplace is permanently closed. As of February 2026, over 150 items from Aspen Marketplace are up for auction, including a forklift, refrigeration, and shelving. Read on for what to know about Aspen Marketplace’s possible closure in Hoboken, New Jersey + the auction selling off the store’s items.

Aspen Marketplace’s Closure

The Stop-Work Order was issued by the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development on July 16th, 2025, due to failure to comply with wage and hour laws — not health or safety issues. The violations checked on the form included failure to comply with Earned Sick Leave (34:11D-1 – 34:11D-7) and Unpaid Wages / Late Payment (34:11-4.2).

In this scenario, Aspen Marketplace would have had to correct these violations and get clearance from the NJ Department of Labor before reopening. But, according to the store’s Google listing, which reads “permanently closed” in red, it appears that Aspen Market has closed its doors. The Hoboken Girl tried calling the store for confirmation, but was left with no answer. There was also no longer an option to leave a voicemail.

We will update this piece if any new information becomes available.
