The Hive Launches Salted Caramel Butterfinger Cinnamon Rolls + Lattes

Local coffee and bakeshop, The Hive, has partnered with Butterfinger to take the candy bar’s brand-new Salted Caramel innovation to a whole new level. This collaboration transforms the new flavor profile into two limited-edition menu items. From Friday, April 4th through the end of April, The Hive locations in Hoboken and Jersey City will feature a Salted Caramel Peanut Butter Cinnamon Roll made with Butterfinger and a Salted Caramel Butterfinger-Flavored Latte, with the cinnamon rolls available only from Friday to Sunday.

In December 2024, Losurdo’s said goodbye to Hoboken, permanently closing its 2nd Street location. Just a few months later, the City of Hoboken is renaming the northeast corner of 2nd and Adams Streets — where Losurdo Bros once stood — “Losurdo’s Way.” The renaming ceremony was slated place this weekend on Saturday, April 5th, but has since been postponed due to the weather forecast. Hoboken’s First-Ever Tern Parade Taking Place Through 6/1

Hoboken’s official honorary bird, the Common Tern, has its own library card and will soon have its own parade throughout town. Local advocacy group Our Tern has been working to raise awareness about the Tern and its habitat, which is the marshy waterfront alongside Hoboken’s shoreline. In honor of the Tern’s role in Hoboken’s ecosystem, Our Tern has partnered with the Hoboken Business Alliance, local artists, local businesses, and community groups to put on a Tern Parade this spring. Hoboken + Jersey City Jersey Avenue Closure Postponed for JC Marathon

As a part of the next phase of the Rebuild by Design Project, Jersey Avenue between Harrison Street in Hoboken and 18th Street in Jersey City will be closed 24 hours a day for approximately one month to install the foundation of the Resist structure’s sliding gate across Jersey Avenue. The work was slated to begin on or around March 31st, 2025, but now, the closure is being postponed to an unannounced date for the upcoming Jersey City Marathon. Click here for more.

Nile cannabis dispensary recently opened at 5411 Bergenline Avenue in West New York, one of the few marijuana businesses operating in North Hudson. Nile co-founder Leland O’Connor noted that there has been a great demand in the area for a legal dispensary. Many customers want to try new cannabis strains and infused creams for pain, which the dispensary is eager to provide.
Film Crews Spotted in Jersey City for New Action Thriller, The Florist

A new action thriller called The Florist is filming in Hoboken and Jersey City from the end of March until the end of April, per NJ.com. Starring Kiefer Sutherland — best known for his roles in 24, Designated Survivor, Phone Booth, and many more — his character Carl Rikker is a florist and assassin who finds himself protecting a young girl in danger. The movie also stars French cinema star Jean Reno, known for his roles in Léon: The Professional, Mission: Impossible (1996), and more. Crews for the film were spotted in downtown Jersey City around noon on Tuesday, April 1st. Dennis Quaid was seen filming in Jersey City on April 2nd, and crews shared with HG readers that he is set to star in the film. Click here for more.
Hoboken Landlords Now Required to Provide Tenants With Mandatory Disclosures for Rent Increases Over 10%
On Wednesday, April 2nd, the Hoboken City Council unanimously passed a new rent control ordinance in Hoboken that aims to increase transparency and protect tenants. Under the new law, Hoboken landlords who are increasing rent by more than 10% must disclose certain information with tenants — including an itemized breakdown of costs associated with the increase, among other things. Mile Square commuters can now enjoy coffee drinks and quick bites while they wait for their PATH trains. Body Found at Hoboken’s Pier C Identified as Murder Victim
On Sunday, March 23rd, 2025, Pier C Park in Hoboken was closed as law enforcement responded to reports of a body in the water. Now, the body has been identified as Julio Flores, 23, of Passaic. This comes after a Lodi man was charged in February in connection with Julio’s disappearance after a shooting at the Castle Point Skate Park in Hoboken. Click here for more.

An application on an upcoming Hoboken Historic Preservation Committee meeting agenda pointed to Sweetgreen coming to 218 Washington Street in Hoboken in 2024 when we first reported on it. Main Street Pops, which has been hosting its markets under the 14th Street Viaduct in Hoboken for several years, announced earlier this spring that it will now be relocating to the 770 Jackson Street Plaza and the Pier A Walkway in the Mile Square. Nest Seekers Signage Spotted at Former Art Gallery Space in Hoboken
A longtime civic association and art gallery space at 1200 Washington Street in Hoboken is being replaced by a real estate agency, according to signage that appeared in the windows last week. Per Patch Hoboken, for many years, the location hosted the Beth Mason Civic League and doubled as an art gallery. The windows now have signage from Nest Seekers International.
Chinese Noodle Shop, Ji Bei Chuan, to Open in Jersey City

Ji Bei Chuan, a Chinese rice noodle shop, will be opening its second New Jersey outpost in Jersey City later this year. The location is currently under construction at 362 Grove Street. The restaurant specializes in rice noodle dishes that can be customized with various proteins ranging from brisket to shrimp to pork belly plus toppings.
HCCC Launches Film Academy Course in Jersey City
Hudson County Community College is partnering with the New Jersey Film Academy to train the next generation of filmmakers in Jersey City. HCCC is one of the first community colleges to participate in a new statewide initiative launched to train students for careers in film and television production. Supported by the New Jersey Council of County Colleges and the New Jersey Business and Industry Association under the New Jersey Pathways to Career Opportunities program, this initiative provides students with the skills needed to succeed in the growing local entertainment industry. Hoboken Youth Climate Action Fund Application Deadline Extended
The deadline to apply for the Youth Climate Action Fund has been extended to Tuesday, April 8th. Per a Nixle alert, youth-led projects that support climate action initiatives in the community may be eligible for up to $5,000 in funding. The City of Hoboken, Hoboken Public Library, and the Jersey City Division of Immigrant Affairs are partnering to offer a Legal Clinic Assistance Program. Per a Nixle alert, this program provides consultation services to assist immigrants with questions related to immigration law, applications, job opportunities, and resources for those in need. Jersey City Council Approves Firehouse Renovation
The Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood in Jersey City may see its historical fire station return to service. Per the Jersey City Times, a new $5.6 million firehouse on Grand Street was supposed to replace the decommissioned station on Halladay Street. Ground was broken, but that plan came to a halt due to litigation, per Business Administrator John Metro. The Jersey City Council approved the firehouse renovation at the meeting on March 26th.
Bayonne Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Fatally Stabbing Wife
On March 28th, the Honorable Mitzy Galis-Menendez sentenced a 35-year-old man to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison for his role in the fatal stabbing of his wife in 2022. Per a Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office press release, Peter Revelo, of Bayonne, previously pleaded guilty to one count of Aggravated Manslaughter. On March 2nd, 2022, the Bayonne Police Department received a 911 call for service to 105 North Street. Responding officers found a woman, later identified as Mely Vanessa Tafoya Mendoza, 33, of Bayonne, with an apparent stab wound to her torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jersey City Marathon 2026 Moves to May to Avoid Conflicts with Holidays

Jersey City’s marathon is scheduled for Palm Sunday, which set off frustration among religious leaders and residents worried about disruptions to Holy Week services. With road closures affecting church access, many felt the event was poorly timed. Per the Jersey City Times, the backlash prompted marathon organizer Steve Lipski to confirm that starting next year, the race will move to the first weekend of May to avoid conflicts with religious observances.
Hoboken Street Closures to Occur During Waterfront Reconstruction Project
The City of Hoboken announced that the Waterfront Reconstruction Project is scheduled to mobilize on Monday, April 7th. Per a Nixle announcement, this project will ensure the long-term safety, resilience, and functionality of the critical waterfront infrastructure and lay the foundation for the Sinatra Drive Redesign Project and the first phase of Maritime Park. Construction is scheduled to occur Monday through Friday between 8AM and 4PM. On April 10th, Sinatra Drive will be closed in both directions starting at 8AM through approximately 6PM to establish a new traffic pattern to allow for construction. Beginning the evening of April 10th, the eastern lane of Sinatra Drive from approximately Fifth Street to Sinatra Drive North will be closed 24/7 throughout the duration of the project. Jersey City Tenants Bring Rent Control Case to Federal Court
Portside Towers, one of Jersey City’s largest residential complexes, with 527 apartment units, has been the subject of a nearly three-year legal battle concerning the City’s enforcement of rent control and alleged systematic violations of illegal rental increases. Per Jersey Digs, the case is now facing federal court after tenants filed a class action lawsuit against Equity Residential, seeking financial reparations of over $400 million in damages, including treble damages under the NJ Consumer Fraud Act.

Jersey City Expands Composting Program with Additional Services
The City of Jersey City is expanding its composting program by adding two more drop-off sites, Pershing Field and Paulus Hook, with two more to sites to be determined this summer. The city also announced a new partnership with Green Bucket Compost to move forward with expansion plans. Per a City of Jersey City press release, residents can now include any certified compostable items in their food waste drop-offs, as Green Bucket Compost works with a nearby anaerobic digestion facility to recycle materials into renewable natural gas (RNG) and soil amending compost.
Hoboken City Council Pulls Resolution for Hospital Redevelopment Plan
A resolution for the Hoboken City Council to authorize the planning board to consider a hospital redevelopment plan was pulled before the meeting on April 2nd. The agenda online says that the measure, sponsored by 3rd Ward Councilman Mike Russo, 4th Ward Councilman Ruben Ramos, and Councilwoman-at-Large Emily Jabbour, was carried. But, according to the Hudson County View, City spokeswoman Marilyn Baer confirmed that the administration had removed it from the agenda before the meeting.
Owner of Razza in Jersey City Nominated for James Beard Award

The owner of Razza in Jersey City, chef and author Dan Richer, has been nominated for a 2025 Restaurant and Chef Award by the James Beard Foundation. Razza is best known for its thin-crust pizzas, which the New York Times wrote about in 2017 in an article, Is New York’s Best Pizza In New Jersey? The winners will be announced on Monday, June 16th, in a ceremony at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
NJCU + Kean University Release Timeline for Merger
A proposed merger between Kean University and New Jersey City University could take more than two years to conclude, campus officials said in a newly-released timeline. Per NJ.com, NJCU accepted Kean’s merger proposal four weeks ago. It was a step that authorized further discussions between the two public universities without finalizing an agreement. New Jersey City University would be renamed Kean Jersey City under the proposal. If the merger happens, it is not likely to occur before 2027.
