The Updates on Sweetgreen
The Monday, November 4th, 2024 Hoboken Historic Preservation Committee meeting agenda revealed an application for Sweetgreen at 218 Washington Street.
Some of the items included in the application were changes to signage, general repairs/restoration, and other architectural plans. The space at 218 Washington Street was formerly home to DryBar, a national blow-dry studio chain. Hoboken’s DryBar location closed in early 2024.
Signage was spotted by our savvy readers in April 2025, and now, it looks like Sweetgreen will be opening on Tuesday, August 26th, per Google. The Hoboken Girl reached out to Sweetgreen, and the salad chain confirmed the news with us.

In August 2020, Sweetgreen opened its first New Jersey store in Jersey City. Just a few months later in October 2020, Sweetgreen hosted a pop-up ‘outpost’ on wheels at 5th and Hudson in Hoboken — but this is the first we’re hearing about a permanent brick-and-mortar location. The Hoboken outpost will mark its second in Hudson County.
Sweetgreen will join several other salad spots on Hoboken’s Washington Street. Hoboken-born Alfalfa is located at 1110 Washington as well as downtown at the corner of Bloomfield and Newark. Just Salad, a chain, is just down the block at 114 Washington, as is Honeygrow at 120 Washington. Local spot Quality Greens Kitchen is right near the new Sweetgreen location at 227 Washington. And Jersey City-born GTK is located at 1014 Washington, known for its wings, wraps, + other fast casual options. Shaka Kitchen at 110 Washington is another local choice for healthy eats.
