Over 20 years ago, after the 9/11 attacks, resident Scott Delea wanted to make a difference in the Hoboken community and provide light in a time of darkness. He founded Party With Purpose, and nearly 20 years later, the nonprofit organization has done exactly that, producing fundraising events to support children’s charities. The organization’s large-scale fundraiser, the annual Party With Purpose 5K, returns on Tuesday, July 28th, at Pier A in Hoboken, with a 5K, kids’ run, after-party, and more. About Party With Purpose
Party With Purpose has been part of Hoboken for more than 20 years, operating as an all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to producing fundraising events to support children’s charities and bring the community together. It was founded in 2002 by Scott Delea, who wanted to make a difference in the community following the events of 9/11. PWP has since donated over $1 million to local charities, including the Boys and Girls Club, TRUE Mentors, Community Lifestyle, and Hoboken Historical Museum children’s programming.
PWP’s motto is “Work Hard. Play Hard. Give Hard,” which sums up the energy behind its events and mission. The organization brings together residents, professionals, volunteers, and supporters while still having fun and making a positive impact.
The 5K: What to Know + How to Register
Party With Purpose’s 5K for this year takes place on Tuesday, July 28th, at Pier A in Hoboken. The race starts at 7PM, starting and ending at the pier. The event also includes a Kids Fun Run, which is from 11AM to 2PM. Tickets for the main 5K are $50, the VIP option is $75 (and includes unlimited alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks at the after-party!), and the Fun Run is $10 for the public.
After the 5K, an after-party will be held right on the lawn, featuring a DJ and beer + wine garden with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
