Maxwell’s was the venue for live music in Hoboken since the ‘70s and a launching pad for a diverse group of emerging artists like R.E.M., The Replacements, New Order, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hole, and Nirvana. While it’s no longer active, don’t fret, as Hoboken + Jersey City’s musical tradition continues on with tons of entertainment options. There is always a bar, pub, restaurant, and even a coffee shop or two, featuring live music from up-and-coming groups, solo artists, cover bands, or local faves from pop, electric, and rock to jazz and acoustic. Read on to discover local spots where you can to listen to live music in Hoboken + Jersey City weekly.

Fox + Crow {594 Palisade Avenue}

Currently, Fox + Crow is not offering live music but hopes to be starting up again soon. Stay tuned!

Madame Claude Bis {390 4th Street}

On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays dine above Madame Claude Bis at the White Eagle Hall to be entertained by the owner with his gypsy jazz band Manouche Bag with the first set at  7:00PM and the second set at 9:00PM.

Moore’s Lounge {189 Monticello Avenue}

For the jazz lovers, every Friday aspiring future jazz professionals can join a jam session and all enjoy the delicious fish fry made from Ms. Ruth’s legendary recipe. On Sunday’s, there is the weekly “Meet the Artist” series where world-renowned and extraordinary artists meet with young, emerging talents, in a “Jazz Clinic” type of setting, performing for a local audience wishful to learn and exchange knowledge about the context in which jazz music has emerged and is played today.

Orale Mexican Kitchen {1426 Willow Avenue, Hoboken + 341 Grove Street, Jersey City}

Orale

Orale is looking into bringing back the Mariachi band to the Hoboken location which took place at Sunday brunch once a month. Due to the pandemic, the event had to stop.

Porta {135 Newark Avenue}

Porta currently has certain live music events due to the pandemic but hope to bring back regular live music events soon so keep an eye on their calendar on their website or check out their @portajerseycity Instagram story to stay up to date on the fun.

The Archer {176 Newark Avenue}

The bar features live music every week on Wednesdays from 6PM-8:30PM. Come early to catch the happy hour specials: $5 pints of Pilsner and $8 classics — sip on a Manhattan, an Old Fashioned, a Daiquiri, or a Bees Knees from 5:00PM-7:00PM. 

The Hutton {225 Hutton Street}

The Hutton hopes to be offering live music soon!

The Liberty House Restaurant {76 Audrey Zapp Drive}

Liberty House

Currently, live music is not being offered but Liberty House is hoping that in the summer live music events will begin again.

White Eagle Hall {337 Newark Avenue}

Jersey City’s concert and performing arts venue in a restored and renovated historic theater, check out their calendar of an all-star line-up of upcoming shows. Buy box office tickets at Tunes in Hoboken or Word in Jersey City!

Barbès {1300 Park Avenue}

Celebrate the weekend with live music at Barbès on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 7:00PM -10:00PM!

bwè kafe’s {1002 Washington Street, Hoboken, 1401 Adams Street + 140 River Drive South, Jersey City}

Although right now there are not monthly open-mic nights, check their website to see when they will be starting up again. At the Hoboken location, it is free to join and listen from 8:00PM-10:00PM. At the Jersey City location, open mic nights are held every last Saturday of the month. There is a $5 suggested donation from 7:30PM-9:30PM.

Dino and Harry’s Steakhouse {163 14th Street}

The steakhouse features light jazz on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and on Fridays and Saturdays, they enhance the romantic experience of date night with elegant piano music.

Elysian Cafe {1001 Washington Street}

Although for now, they are not offering live music due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they will be offering live music again soon!

Farside Tavern {531 Washington Street}

Live music is currently not available but as the weather warms up {almost summer!} live music will take place outdoors.

Finnegan’s Pub {734 Willow Avenue}

Finnegan’s pub hosts live music night events each week. Head over there to hear live music from 7PM-9PM on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Grand Vin {500 Grand Street}

Grand Vin

Grand Vin hosts live music on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Live music events go from  7PM-11PM or  8PM-12AM.

House of ‘Que {340 Sinatra Drive}

On the House of ‘Que website, tons of fun events are listed for live music. Whether it is Country Night or Dueling Pianos you have many options to choose from! 

Onieal’s {343 Park Avenue}

Live music is not available right now because of the COVID-19 pandemic but will be coming back soon.

Pilsener Haus + Biergarten {1422 Grand Street}

An Austro-Hungarian restaurant and bar set in a turn of the century Bierhall with an adjoining, outdoor Biergarten, Pilsener has live music every Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights from 6:00PM to 7:00PM  and are currently in the process of bringing back the children’s band for brunch on the last Sunday of every month.

Saku {936 Park Avenue}

Although Saku is not currently offering live music, enjoy sushi and live music in the future!

The Cuban {333 Washington Street}

Currently, live music is not being offered due to the pandemic but will most likely be returning, so stay tuned!

The Shepherd + the Knucklehead {1313 Willow Avenue}

Enjoy live music beginning at 8:00PM on Fridays and a DJ on Saturdays beginning at 10PM.
