Typically, bars serve drinks and only drinks {and maybe some mixed nuts, if you’re lucky} — but, not in Hoboken. Here in the Mile Square, bars serve food that’s just as tasty as a restaurant + some delish cocktails and beers on tap to boot. One unassuming joint that’s taking the food game by storm is Finnegan’s Pub located on 734 Willow Avenue, which might be surprising to some. Read on to learn what makes this spot so special for a lively night out in Hoboken {complete with live music, we might add}.
The Food
Bar-goers who have slept on the food at Finnegan’s Pub are missing out on some seriously delicious pub grub {rhyme intended}. Though this might seem like your average bar + bar food, Finnegan’s has a full menu that impresses every time.

Trust us on this one: the loaded tater tots are the some of the best in town. Unlike most bars and restaurants, Finnegan’s tots are homemade {NOT the typical frozen ones} and it’s clear once you bite into one. These potato-pillows are well, pillows — they are huge and need to be eaten with a fork {trust}. The tots are topped with cheese, bacon, and scallions making for the perfect app to share {or not}.
Another dish that was rumored to be a must-try is the chipotle ranch wings {pictured above for your #foodporn pleasure}. And might we say, they are as delicious as they sound. These were so unique — think of the perfect amount of spice cooled down by creamy ranch at the same time. Other wing flavors include hot, mild, teriyaki, sweet Thai chili, or diablo {extra hot}.

As far as drinks go, Finnegan’s is serving up all of the no-frills classics. There’s a great beer list but if that’s not your thing, the bartenders can make just about anything — think a milky Moscow Mule, a mojito, and more.

The Atmosphere
For those getting to Finnegan’s at around 6:30PM on a Friday night, expect a more mellow atmosphere to sip libations + dine in at one of the downstairs bar tables.
Once 8:00PM rolls around, however, expect more of a crowd of mixed ages. The bar has TVs, which the bartenders can put on full blast for viewing of Jeopardy!, which other bar-goers often enjoy.
In the back, there is a separate room with a pool table and two dart boards, for those seeking something a little more active to do.
Upstairs, there is another room perfect for hanging out with pals and even better — skeeball. Yup. Definitely not something to pass up.
The Final Verdict
If you haven’t been to Finnegan’s Pub, make it your next date night or night out with friends. And if you’ve only been for drinks and not food — order. the. tots. It’s the perfect spot to indulge in some grub, drink a beer {or two, or three…}, and play some classic games with friends.
