The History
The Festival, otherwise known as the Fest of the Madonna De Martiri, is annually hosted the weekend after Labor Day in New Jersey. The origins of it, however, date back to 1399 where Ladislao di Durazzo, the King of Napoli, celebrated the blessings and miracle of the Madonna, according to the festival’s website. Each year, September 8th commemorates the Universal Feast of the Nativity of Mary — hence, the final date of the festival.
