The annual Hoboken Italian Festival {aka the Feast of the Madonna De Martiri} is officially back from Thursday, September 5th through Sunday, September 8th. The festival originally hails from a festival in Italy that dates back to over 600 years ago. Happening right on the waterfront in Sinatra Park, the Hoboken Italian Festival features food, a procession through the Mile Square, fireworks, and more. Keep reading for all you need to know about the 2019 Hoboken Italian Festival.

The History

The Festival, otherwise known as the Fest of the Madonna De Martiri, is annually hosted the weekend after Labor Day in New Jersey. The origins of it, however, date back to 1399 where Ladislao di Durazzo, the King of Napoli, celebrated the blessings and miracle of the Madonna, according to the festival’s website. Each year, September 8th commemorates the Universal Feast of the Nativity of Mary — hence, the final date of the festival.
