Hair extensions have a variety of benefits — they can be used to fill in thinning hair, add volume, help grow out a too-short cut, and even add some highlights without the damage of coloring the natural hair. Extensions are an investment, and we’ve done the research for you, chatting with local experts to learn about the installation process, maintenance, cost, and how to choose the right type of extension and stylist. Here’s a list of the top-rated salons that specialize in hair extensions in Hoboken + Jersey City. Keep reading to learn more about the price of hair extensions in Hoboken and Jersey City, what to look for when choosing a salon, and the upkeep of hair extensions.
There are several different types of extensions, including K-tips, I-tips, tape-ins, and wefts. Some are bonded with keratin or glue, while others are sewn in or secured with beads. “Extensions provide a wide range of opportunities to bring out your hair’s best potential,” shared Christine Gatto, Owner of Salon Gatto, “they are great for someone looking to add volume, fullness, or length for special occasions such as weddings, birthdays or a vaca[tion].”
“Hair extensions aren’t just for length – they’re an amazing way to add fullness, volume, or even pops of color without a long-term commitment,” Amanda Tanko of Love Lane Salon shared. “Just a few well-placed pieces can completely change how someone feels about their hair and boost confidence.”
“Extensions are an art form,” said Chay Casey, Owner of The Artist + The Antidote, “when done right, they amplify your look without compromising your natural hair.”
What to Look for When Determining a Stylist’s Expertise
Here’s what several local experts shared about what to look for when determining a stylist’s expertise:
“First, make sure the stylist is certified in extensions,” shared Christine Gatto. “Executing the install is critical to achieve both the hair goal (look and feel) and maintaining hair health. It takes training and experience to master extension techniques.”
Ariella Mendez, owner of The Salon At Hoboken, shared that to determine a stylist’s expertise, clients should “look for photos of the stylist’s work grown out, look for photos showing the client over time to see if the scalp and hair still look healthy after months of wearing extensions.”
“Extensions should blend like they grew out of your own scalp—if they don’t, run,” says Chay Casey. “Look for someone who’s not just installing hair, but building a whole look,” she continued, “at the end of the day, it should feel effortless, comfortable, and unapologetically you.”
Amanda Tanko of Love Lane noted that it’s important to “look for someone trained in multiple methods – this shows they’re well-rounded and can recommend the most suitable option based on your hair type and lifestyle.”
“A great extension stylist,” Nazir El Cheikh, owner of NAZNAZ, added, “should be certified, have a solid portfolio, and provide personalized consultations.”
Lorraine Fred, owner of LHSBeauty Salon, agreed. “Look for certifications and training specifically in hair extensions.” She added, “Pay attention to how well the stylist listens to your needs and preferences—an excellent stylist will tailor the experience to you,” she said.
“Finding a stylist on IG is okay,” shared Delia Patente, owner of The Chique Collective, “however, if you aren’t familiar with extensions, there are things you won’t catch.” For example, it’s hard to determine if the sectioning is clean, if the parting is straight, if the right extension type was used for that client’s hair type, and the health and integrity of the hair. “Remember this isn’t a cheap service, so you want to make sure it’s what you want and not what the stylist wants just to make a few bucks and get a few followers and views on social media,” she concluded.
The Nulux Salon team also noted the importance of client reviews and salon reputation, sharing that “consistent positive reviews and word-of-mouth referrals are strong indicators of trust and satisfaction.”
Local experts agree, a great stylist will take the time to fully assess the hair texture, density, and lifestyle of each client before making a recommendation. It’s important for each customer’s wants and needs to be heard by the stylist, hair extensions are a custom experience and shouldn’t be treated with a one-size-fits-all approach.

Hoboken
BOND Salon | 44 Hudson Place 3rd Floor + 425 Washington Street
Who we spoke to: Emma McJury, hairstylist at BOND Salon
Cost: BOND Salon does Bellami tape-ins, weft, and k-tips extensions. Prices start at $260, and move-ups start at $130. Contact BOND Salon for full pricing details.
Maintenance: Extensions need to be dried whenever they’re washed (especially at the root) to prevent mold and mildew. They also need to be treated like hair, so apply hair masks and oil. Emma says to make sure to brush your hair multiple times and day and make sure hair is detangled at the root (especially for k-tips, when it’s more grown out). Tape-ins last about two months (and hair can be used a few times), and k-tips last about 4-6 months (hair cannot be reused, no maintenance needed). There are three types of weft extensions — volume, infinity, and flex — which usually require one install and 2-3 move-ups when beads are 0.5 inches away from the scalp, followed by another install.
What makes this salon stand out: “Bond strives to give the best customer experience which means that the client and stylist will work collaboratively to choice the extension method and color that best fits them! Stylists are Bellami certified and take continuing education to provide the latest trends and techniques.”
A consultation is required before ordering hair.
The Chique Collective | 1200 Grand Street, Hoboken + 363 Second Street, Jersey City
Who we spoke to: Delia Patente, owner of The Chique Collective
Cost: Mini volume extensions start at $60, while full-length tape-in extensions start at $450. Partial volume sewn in extensions begin at $250. For full pricing details, head to The Chique Collective website. The team values transparency, and all pricing information is available on the website.
Color Matching: The salon has a lot of options for clients, from single colors to balayage, to highlighted and even peek-a-boo fashion colors. If a client changes their hair color along their extension journey, stylists can adjust the color right alongside them. Since the salon uses human hair extensions, the team can custom-color the extensions to match a client’s specific needs, for example, a bride for her wedding.
Maintenance: For tape-ins, the salon recommends re-application appointments be scheduled for 6-8 weeks, and for sew-ins, the salon recommends 8-10 weeks. Around the second appointment, stylists will usually be able to make a more customized cadence recommendation, because they’ll get to check in to see how the client’s hair is feeling and growing. Re-application appointments include extension removal, a good wash, a blowout, reinstallation, a cut to blend anything out, and styling, sometimes even a scalp treatment as needed.
What makes this salon stand out: “Extensions are a luxury service,” Delia Patente, salon owner, shared, “and while most expect to pay in the thousands, we have a look for every budget. Since we book by the look, there are no surprises at checkout.”
The Chique Collective offers “training wheel extensions” called Mini Volume, which add light volume just on the sides to try out. They shared that most of their clients start here and become obsessed, ultimately booking an appointment for the full look.
Lorraine’s House of Styles | 160 First Street
Who we spoke to: Lorraine Fred, owner of LHSBeauty Salon and a Multi Certified Hair Extensions Specialist.
Cost: Pricing for hair extensions is determined during a scheduled consultation with a certified hair extensions specialist. This personalized approach ensures that services are tailored to meet the specific needs and preferences of each client, while providing them with the best value for their investment in beautiful hair.
Color matching: “Color matching is an essential part of getting hair extensions that blend seamlessly,” shared owner Lorraine Fred. Stylists at LHS start by fully analyzing the current color, including any highlights or lowlights, which is done by taking a few strands of hair to compare under various lighting to ensure an accurate match. Additionally, stylists use high-quality extensions that can be custom-dyed to perfectly match each customer’s unique shade, ensuring a natural look.
Maintenance: “Maintenance is crucial for keeping hair extensions looking fresh. Typically, clients should schedule follow-up appointments every 6-8 weeks, depending on their hair growth and the type of extension used. During these appointments, stylists check the condition of the extensions, perform any necessary adjustments, and provide care tips. “Regular maintenance not only prolongs the life of your extensions but also keeps your natural hair healthy,” Lorraine concluded.
What makes this salon stand out: The mission at Lorraine’s is simple: to leave the community better than they found it, to give a high five and killer hair to every woman, and to continue building the bond their team holds, every day.
Salon Caru | 104 Hudson Street
Who we spoke to: Brittney Cowan, Art Director of Color and Extension Specialist
Cost: Salon Caru provides a range of extension methods, based on the client’s unique goals, whether that be length, fullness, or both. Pricing depends on several factors, including desired length and volume, hair color and length, and the extension method best suited to the client. “At CARU, we don’t mark up the cost of hair—what we pay is what you pay,” Brittney said. “To ensure the best results, we ALWAYS start with a complimentary consultation. During this visit, we’ll discuss your vision, lifestyle, and budget, then walk you through the best options and exact pricing.”
Maintenance: Aside from clip-ins, all extension methods require regular maintenance to keep them looking and feeling their best. Most guests book a “move-up” appointment every 4–6 weeks, depending on the method and how their natural hair grows. With proper care, the extension hair itself can last anywhere from 6-8 months before needing to be replaced. Brittney noted that “consistent maintenance and at-home care are key to maximizing the life and quality of your extensions.”
What makes this salon stand out: “No matter your hair goal—big or small—we have a method that can help you get there in a way that feels natural, comfortable, and totally you. At our salon, we’re committed to staying on top of the latest extension techniques, and we’re fortunate to be part of the Bellami Professional education program, which offers continuous, high-level training.”
Salon Caru never books an extension service without a thorough consultation first. This allows the stylists to understand each client’s goals, daily hair routine, and expectations for maintenance. It also allows the client to ask questions and get a better understanding of what to expect from the experience.
The Salon At Hoboken | 600 Harrison Street
Who we spoke to: Ariella Mendez, Salon Owner, Certified Hair Extension Expert
Cost: Pricing ranges from $1,500+ for a full head of hair extensions for length and fullness. Ariella shared that the average client requests hair extensions for fullness + to add a little length. The typical investment is around $1,700, which includes the cost of the reusable hair and the Invisible Bead Extensions for the first visit.
The salon has individual beaded extensions, which fill in smaller areas like the front and sides of the hair, which can cost as little as $85 and can have a hugely positive impact. This type of extension allows the stylists to work within many budgets and is also a lower maintenance option.
Color Matching: “We choose the shade closest to the client and then custom color the extensions for an exact match. They will be 100% undetectable & we refresh the color every few months.”
Maintenance: Customers should plan to return every 6-12 weeks for maintenance. The salon shared that the average fine-haired client will do best with an eight-week cadence, while thicker hair can go slightly longer, but don’t recommend waiting more than 12 weeks.
What makes this salon stand out: The Salon At Hoboken specializes in hair extensions, and the staff are certified in the industry’s leading methods.
The Salon at Hoboken only provides services to clients when they are confident that they can deliver a healthy result. The goal is longevity and scalp health, and Ariella shared that they will only install the correct amount of hair and the correct length of hair for the client to wear extensions for as long as they like. “Our work is undetectable and comfortable. Fine hair is our niche. A majority of our extension wearers have naturally fine hair & will always need extensions to achieve their dream hair. Our goal is to give women the confidence, and the tool we use is hair extensions,” she shared.

In some cases, the team will custom-dye the hair to match the extensions, though this is usually not necessary.
Maintenance: “Maintenance depends on the technique that the stylist and client agree on to accomplish their goals,” according to Christine, “with an average maintenance appointment of approximately 6-12 weeks.”

Love Lane Salon | 190 Christopher Columbus Drive
Who we spoke to: Amanda Tanko, Licensed Cosmetologist + Extension Specialist, @amanda.joanne_glow
Cost: Hair extensions can range from $200 to $8,000, depending on things like the method, length, texture, and color. The best way to get a proper quote is to visit the salon for a customized, in-person consultation so that a stylist can help each client choose the right style based on their lifestyle and hair type.
Color Matching: Love Lane custom-matches extensions by coloring both the client’s natural hair and the extensions themselves, if needed. If clients prefer not to color their hair, stylists will select extensions that best match the clients’ tone and texture, before completing a custom root melt and gloss, curating a perfect blend.
Maintenance: Maintenance timelines depend on several factors, including the method used, but most clients return in 6-7 weeks, and appointment length can range from one to eight hours, depending on method, color services, and the desired outcome. Some methods will require new hair each visit, while others allow the hair to be reused, depending on the client’s home care routine. “Hair extensions require intentional maintenance and care,” shared Amanda. “Blow-dry time may increase, and clients should switch to moisturizing shampoos, conditioners, oils, and masks to maintain the integrity of the hair. A satin pillowcase, loose braids while sleeping, and gentle brushing from the ends up are essential for longevity. Every client should receive a detailed aftercare guide following their initial install.”
Summer Tip: “Be mindful of your products! Mineral-based sunscreens are a must! Avoid ingredients like Avobenzone and Octocrylene, which can discolor extensions. Great brands to try include Sun Bum, Salt & Stone, and Project Reef,” Amanda shared. “Swimming in pools or oceans isn’t recommended with extensions, but if needed, saturate your hair with conditioner or conditioner mixed with water (avoiding the root area) and secure it in a braid or bun to help protect the hair cuticle.”
NAZNAZ | 295 Grove Street

Cost: Pricing starts at $300, with full installations typically ranging from $500 to $1,200, depending on the method used and the amount of hair.
Color Matching: NAZNAZ matches each client’s hair color by blending multiple shades in natural light, and for clients who color their hair, stylists will either collaborate with the client’s colorist or handle it in-house.
Maintenance: Maintenance requirements depend on the method: tape-ins require follow-up appointments every 6–8 weeks, while keratin bonds last 3–4 months, and wefts are adjusted every 6–10 weeks. For extra protection, NAZNAZ stylists always recommend sulfate-free products and gentle brushing.
What makes this salon stand out: NAZNAZ specializes in tape-ins, keratin bonds, and hand-tied wefts. “High-quality hair and proper installation are everything,” Naz shared, “extensions should feel natural, never heavy or uncomfortable.”

Nulux Salon + Spa | 106 River Drive South
Photo Credit: Nulux Salon + Spa
Who we spoke to: Nanie Pagan, Jenna Kathcart, + Paula Marin
Color Matching: The stylists at Nulux Salon often use swatches or custom-blend shades to ensure a perfect match. “We match extensions to both natural and dyed hair by analyzing base colors, undertones and any fading. Multiple shades are often blended for a seamless look. When matching hair extensions, the key is to match the mid-lengths to ends of your natural hair, not the roots.” The team continued, “extensions blend seamlessly when they align with the color and texture of the ends, since that’s where they’ll be most visible.”
Maintenance: Reapplication is needed as the extensions will grow out along with the client’s natural hair. For tape-ins, clients should schedule follow-up appointments every 6-8 weeks; for hand-tied or beaded wefts, clients should schedule follow-up appointments every 6-10 weeks.
Key considerations when looking to prolong the life of extensions are keeping the extensions close to the scalp, preventing damage or tangling, being diligent with conditioning, and avoiding heat.
Additional Tips: To keep roots looking fresh while wearing extensions, the Nulux team recommends using a root touch-up technique that avoids direct contact with extension bonds or wefts. This can be done with foils, balayage, or shadow-root applications. The salon also recommends scheduling regular color refresh appointments every 4-6 weeks to maintain a consistent look and to prevent harsh grow-out lines.
What makes this salon stand out: The Nulux extensions team has 18+ years in cosmetology: Nanie has 35 years, Jenna has 23 years, + Paula has 18 years of experience.
