A few months back, we got word that not one but two women-owned businesses in Hoboken were expanding and opening second locations in the Mile Square. Mojo Coffee Company and Salon Gatto are furthering their footprints in town this year — and Mojo Coffee seems to be planning to open up this week at 8th and Bloomfield. Locals noticed that the second Mojo location looks all renovated and ready to go. The company is also rumored to have told a customer that he’d be sipping on a birthday latte by June 9th, suggesting its opening will likely be this week — though the official opening date has not yet been announced. As for Salon Gatto, the spring opening for its second location has been slightly delayed to the summer but will be coming to Hoboken very soon. Read on to learn more about these Hoboken businesses and their upcoming second locations.

Mojo opened its first location at 230 Willow Avenue in June 2020. The MOJO owners are Hoboken natives and coffee lovers who clearly love being a part of the local community. Their mission was to create vibrant cafes that reflect, improve, and inspire our communities.

Two of the main brews that stand out in the coffee world are the Mojo House Blend and the Rio Azul. There’s also a Mocha Latte, the perfect drink for chocolate lovers; a Turmeric Latte, made from a blend of freshly ground turmeric, pink peppercorn, ginger, allspice, lemongrass, and black pepper; and a Masala Chai Latte, made from ginger, cinnamon, green cardamom, cloves, black peppercorn, and organic loose-leaf black tea.

The shop is quaint, chic, and modern. The neutral palette provides a calm and airy environment, with fun, playful patterns on display — beginning with the gorgeous exposed brick wall, black and white palm tree wallpaper, and plaid throw pillows. We suspect (and hope) that the second location will have similar vibes. Speaking of which, it will be located at 8th and Bloomfield.

After months of renovations and preparations, it seems the storefront is all polished and ready to go. Locals have noticed that the storefront looks prepared to open its doors any day. Mojo also allegedly promised a coffee-lover via social media that he’d be able to enjoy a birthday drink at the new 8th and Bloomfield spot by June 9th, suggesting the doors will open super soon. While there isn’t a confirmed opening date just yet, this second spot is planning to open within the next week.

Salon Gatto, located around the corner from the Hoboken PATH station at 22 Hudson Place opened was founded by Christine Gatto. It’s one of the only organic and clean beauty hair salons in town.

“My expertise in the beauty industry as a Master Stylist and National Educator inspired my vision for Gatto, a salon that delivers a one-of-a-kind experience for both clients and talented hair artists,” says Christine.

As far as the vibe of the salon, it has a clean, modern design and instead of having a station, the stylists alternate chairs throughout the day to keep things fresh for clients.

The second location will be in uptown Hoboken, and though it was set to open this spring, the opening date has been slightly postponed to the summer. The salon shared via Instagram, “The Gatto Team is thrilled to announce some exciting news! We are expanding our footprint in our beloved city of Hoboken with location number TWO!”

In addition to the expansion, the salon launched its own app to make the hair care experience even more effortless. Clients will be able to book appointments via the app.
