Over the past few months, a beloved uptown coffee shop has been at the forefront of the Hoboken rumor mill. City of Saints, located at 1320 Bloomfield Street, had mysteriously and sporadically been closed during hours of operation, leaving locals to surmise that the closure might be permanent. Unfortunately, the suspicions are solid. The team at City of Saints confirmed with The Hoboken Girl that today, February 29th, is the uptown coffee shop’s last day in business. Read on for what we know about City of Saint’s closure in Hoboken.

The Details

On January 27th, The Hoboken Girl received a curious reader inquiry: “Any idea why City of Saints has been closed lately?” At the time, a source from the team shared that the closure was temporary, due to some maintenance issues and staffing conflicts. The source did share, however, that the coffee shop was nearing the end of its lease and the future remained unclear.

Since then, the same reader has followed up, sharing that City of Saints still wasn’t open on weekends. As we know good and well, Saturday morning is prime coffee run time, so naturally suspicions remained high. A rep from City of Saints confirmed with The Hoboken Girl today that the lease has ended, and the coffee shop is closing.

The team shared with HG:  “Today is our last day. Lease is up. Was a good run. Love Hoboken and all the support from our customers over the years.”

City of Saints is a self-described “coffee roasting company with retail cafes in wonderfully disparate nooks of New York and New Jersey, roasting out of Brooklyn NY.” The Hoboken location is certainly a nook — a beloved grab-and-go spot in uptown that felt like a cozy little corner of the Mile Square. Though the space was small, the menu packed a mighty punch of flavor. Over the years, we’ve ranted and raved about the vanilla cinnamon latte, which is still one of our faves.
