In 2023, The Hoboken Girl reported on a new ice cream shop coming to uptown Hoboken at 1122 Washington Street. At the time, New Jersey-based ice cream shop Surreal Creamery had announced plans for the space. Now, we know for sure that a different ice cream shop called Maroons Creamery will be opening in the space — and it’s opening this weekend. Maroons Creamery specializes in homemade flavors, such as guava cheesecake, custard apple, and raspberry doughnuts, and has a ‘build-your-own’ ice cream concept. Read on to learn more about the new ice cream shop, Maroons Creamery, coming to Washington Street in Hoboken.
Opening in Hoboken
Pedestrians may have noticed the signage put up in December at 1122 Washington Street stating, “COMING SOON” in big letters. A bright yellow Maroon’s Creamery sign has since been put up in the window. Per Patch, a worker said that the store will be opening this weekend.
The company also took to Instagram to announce its plans, “Maroons Creamery: Your Ice Cream Dreamland. Welcome to Maroon’s Creamery, where ice cream dreams come true! We’re the ice cream mad scientists who love turning simple ingredients into extraordinary flavors, textures, and experiences that will leave your taste buds doing a happy dance.”
The Hoboken Girl got in contact with owner Vidhi Shah who provided some information about Maroons Creamery.

About Maroons Creamery
Maroons Creamery is a customized ice cream shop coming to Hoboken’s 1122 Washington Street at the end of this year. The shop highlights the ‘make your own’ concept where customers can craft their ideal ice cream by choosing the base, style, and toppings. All ice cream selections will be produced in-house. Owner Vidhi Shah has long aspired to open her own business, particularly in the dessert industry. Vidhi hopes to provide customers with a good experience when visiting Maroons Creamery.
“We will offer a variety of ice cream flavors and combinations so I hope customers enjoy our ice cream even in the wintertime. Everything is customized from base, style, and toppings so customers can enjoy an experience of their favorite flavors without being limited to just one base,” Vidhi said.
The shop will serve over 25 varieties of flavors, styles, and toppings from soft-served to hard, as well as a variety of cone options. The shop will also serve a variety of specialty drinks including bubble teas, slushies, lemonades, iced teas, floteas, and hot drinks. Some flavors include guava cheesecake, custard apple, raspberry doughnut ice cream, brown sugar vanilla ice cream, and gooey caramel cake ice cream. Between the variety of flavors, inventive toppings, and other add-ins, the combinations are seemingly endless.
Vidhi shared with HG that the shop will have the Insta-famous bubble waffle ice cream, also known as egg waffle ice cream. This is a type of dessert that combines a popular Hong Kong street snack with ice cream and features a freshly made egg-based waffle that’s crispy on the outside and slightly chewy on the inside, cooked in a special bubble-shaped waffle iron. More flavors will become available in the new year as Vidhi plans to expand the menu.
With a comfortable space for up to eight guests, Maroons Creamery will boast a green, black, and white interior to compliment its ice cream colors.

1122 Washington Street
HG reported on the same address earlier this year. Our April 2023 story indicated that Surreal Creamery would be coming to the Mile Square. Surreal Creamery specializes in Instagarammable frozen treats like milkshakes, sundaes, and more. The menu has an Asian-inspired bent, with boba teas and other similar treats. There are locations in Ridgewood, Westfield, New Brunswick, and NYC. Surreal Creamery had submitted plans to the Hoboken Historical Preservation Committee for its signage. HG has reached out to Surreal Creamery for comment and will update this piece when we hear back.
