The true spirit of yoga is not just a mere physical practice, but a mental and spiritual journey as well. Yoga originated in ancient India and has taken many shapes and forms since its inception. The various interpretations of yoga can be experienced through the many different studios that have arrived in Jersey City. Here’s our list of yoga studios in Jersey City.

Asana Soul Practice | 124 1st Street

A Hoboken favorite, Asana Soul Practice has been operating in Hudson County since January 2017. With the second location, Asana Soul has shared its vinyasa-based yoga classes with interested JC yogis. Asana Soul sets itself apart from other studios with their classes that move to the sounds of an in-house DJ. Other classes practice their poses accompanied by live music, while some meditate in a sound bath. New moms can also bring their newborns to Asana Soul’s postnatal yoga session, Baby Soul.

Sacred Souls Yoga | 2983 John F Kennedy Boulevard, Suite 403

Formerly Roots Yoga, all classes at Roots Yoga Studio are taught in the traditional Hatha yoga style: a combination of gentle relaxation, warm-up exercise (sun salutations), yoga poses (asanas), and breathing exercise (pranayama). All levels are welcome and private sessions are available as well.

Simha Yoga Lab at 333 Grand | 333 Grand Street

Founder Steven Cheng offers a unique form of vinyasa that he describes as a combination of his teachers’ philosophies while allowing room for students to experiment and modify. He explains, “This is how my teacher, Dharma Mittra, teaches by giving the liberty to express and reinterpret the poses. There is also the discipline of alignment and structure, as taught by my other teacher, Alison West. Each class becomes the union of two with dynamic movements and structural clarity.” Beginner, open, intermediate, and advanced classes available.

Surya Yoga Academy  | 41 Grove Street

A Hoboken and Jersey City staple, Surya Yoga is known for its hot flow and 75 minute hot classical Hatha classes. The studio offers unheated classes if you don’t feel like sweating. Unheated classes include an open vinyasa flow as well as a yin flow, which is a slower approach to yoga focusing on longer stretches while calming the nervous system using long slow breaths. Pre- and post-natal classes are available as well.
