Vepo Clean

This delivery/takeout pizza spot is 100% vegan. While continually experimenting with new flavors, the menu consists of five solid vegan staples guaranteed to please: Buffalo Cauliflower (roasted cauliflower, buffalo sauce, vegan cheese, vegan ranch, and cilantro), Impossible Pizza (impossible “meat,” caramelized onions, vegan tomato sauce, pickled jalapeño, fresh tomatoes, vegan cheddar, and chives), BBQ Jackfruit (pulled BBQ jackfruit, pineapple, red onions, vegan mozzarella, scallion, and vegan bbq sauce), Vegan Vodka (broccoli, roasted red peppers, vegan mozzarella, and vegan vodka sauce — a personal favoite), and the classic Margherita (vegan tomato sauce, vegan mozzarella, fresh basil, olive oil drizzle). Be sure to also try the delicious vegan brownies while there. Please note: This spot is not gluten-free.

Quality Pizza Co serves up a variety of pizzas — including ones with cauliflower crust and vegan cheese topping. There is also an option for gluten-free crust here.

The Brick | 1122 Washington Street, Hoboken

The Brick’s entire vegan menu is pretty incredible — including penne vodka + eggplant parm (some are even gluten-free, annnd they have VEGAN mozz sticks!). But the Buffalo Chicken Pizza, the BBQ pizza — made with pulled young jackfruit and red onions, sautéed in BBQ sauce — and the vegan Margherita pizza are the best. Each of the restaurant’s six pies can be made gluten-free upon request, too. Just make sure to ask about some of the toppings, as the vegan chicken is not gluten-free, but all pies can be made GF.

Tony Boloney’s | 263 1st Street, Hoboken

Tony Boloney’s not only features an extensive vegan pizza menu using nut-free vegan cheese, but it also has a “Build Your Own Vegan Pizza” menu. And the toppings aren’t your run-of-the-mill veggie toppings. We’re talking vegan eggplant meatball, vegan pepperoni, potato chips, pumpkin seeds, crushed peanuts, eggplant cutlet, and broccoli rabe. Please note that the gluten-free crust is not vegan.

Ready to order vegan pies include the Phoni Roni (picy marinara, vegan mozzarella, and vegan pepperoni for $17.50, $30, or $5), Wok-A-Flaka Za (red curry, Brussel sprouts, bamboo, sesame seed, and Thai basil for $15, $25, or $4.5), Veatball That Mama Never made (breadcrumb, eggplant meatball, garlic + herbs, marinara, vegan mozzarella for $17.50, $30, or $5), and so much more.

Porta has both a vegan and vegetarian menu of pizzas. The three vegan pies on the menu include the Marinara (San Marzano tomatoes, garlic, oregano, and extra virgin olive oil), Rita + Mark (San Marzano tomatoes, vegan mozzarella, vegan parm, garlic, dried oregano, basil, and extra virgin olive oil), Snawzeech (San Marzano tomatoes, garlic, cashew ricotta, broccoli rabe, vegan sausage, crushed red pepper, and extra virgin olive oil). And while Porta does not allow for any substitutions, the restaurant is happy to make any deletions, so all of the five vegetarian pies can be made vegan by removing the cheese.

Famous vegan chef Matthew Kenney has a plant-based pizza restaurant, which also features an extensive sustainable wine menu, in the East Village. Pizza is made in a custom-built wood-burning oven using tree-nut cheeses. Delicious options include the Truffle Cashew Cream (wild mushrooms, baby kale, and lemon vinaigrette), Farro-Fennel Sausage (tomato and cashew mozzarella), and the Spicy Marinara Arrabbiata (shiitake bacon, cauliflower, macadamia ricotta, and basil). The menu is split into “Pizza” and “Not Pizza,” so diners can enjoy a pizza with a delicious vegan pasta or vegan cheese platter. Dessert here is a must, so save room for the cheesecake too.
