About the Partnership

The idea to have private dinners and events at the Roig Collection Art Gallery came about before opening the second location, which is currently a pop-up, at 636 Washington Street in May. The first showroom had been part of W Hoboken for the past three years but artist Ricardo Roig tells Hoboken Girl that “we just wanted additional space for the summer to show art, host events, and experiences.”

The Hoboken resident and father-of-two then sought out someone to partner with. “Having a partner who has the skills and capacity to host great dinners and small events was paramount to making this new pop-up gallery a success,” he shares. “Hudson Table was my top choice to partner with. [Their] reputation speaks for itself and we love everything that they are about aesthetics, design, education, and changing culinary experiences.”

As soon as Roig connected with Allen Bari, the owner and founder of Hudson Table, they immediately got to work, using their creative minds to figure out how both businesses could benefit. Bari invited Roig to hang up some of his art at Hudson Table’s rooftop dining space at 1403 Clinton Avenue and is working on future events at the rooftop for Roig to show off his skills. One that’s in the works is an art experience dinner where 50-70 people will be able to take part in witnessing the artist’s magic.

At the new art gallery space, Roig plans on having public and private dinners and events through the partnership with Hudson Table. “We have a nice recently renovated backyard that can host about 16-20 people as well as an upstairs gallery for an additional 10 [people],” Roig says. “With Hudson Table’s talent we can together offer fun food experiences where people can meet and celebrate being together again.”

In addition, the gallery, which is being called “The Giving Gallery,” will offer art classes four times a month in the downstairs studio this summer and at W Hoboken going forward. Called “Roig Experience,” any aspiring artist can register for this two-hour printmaking class where students create their own original prints.

Ricardo’s art has been featured all over town. He had a sold-out solo show at the Hoboken Historical Museum in 2012; he has a mural at the American Legion Post 107 bar; a mural at the W Hoboken; and created two murals in 2019 for the new hotel Canopy by Hilton Jersey City.

Roig adds, “If someone wants to use any of the spaces and cater their own private event maximum 20 people with Hudson Table when we aren’t using it for the art classes, our own events, or [during] gallery hours, they totally can. We don’t charge any rental fees and we’re just happy to share space in a town that is super limited.”
