Jersey City Heights is about to get a whole lot healthier. Vibez Juice Cafe, a vegan eatery and juice shop that opened in The Heights on July 25th, is on a mission to improve the health of the community by offering fresh, nutritious meals on the go. The menu consists of various smoothie options, delicious juices, and tasty, light vegan fare that is made fresh and is always healthy. The Background
This family-run cafe is owned and operated by Jersey City locals, Medjine Altino and her husband, John Altino. “We are very proud to have a small, solid team of professionals and friends and notably our business mentor, Harvey Goldstein, behind us on all levels,” Medjine tells Hoboken Girl.
The idea of opening a vegan cafe came from a few different places for the Altinos. John has been a vegan for the past 26 years and has witnessed first-hand the benefits of proper nutrition through this lifestyle. He explains how he’s rarely ever sick and always has tons of positive energy. Secondly, Medjine has been a math teacher for the past 18 years and has come to realize the value of nutrition in correlation with learning and academic achievements. Basically, proper nutrition is one of the most important factors influencing growth and immunity.

“For us, the idea of starting Vibez Juice + Vegan Cafe is not about revenue, but more importantly about improving people’s lives. Living in today’s world, it seems like everyone has a lot more of everything except time. Everyone is always on the move and in a hurry, they don’t have time to cook healthy meals at home, but still want to eat healthily,” Medjine explains.
What’s The Menu
Menu items consist of smoothies, juices, acai bowls, and savory, vegan food options that change daily but can include stewed eggplant, curry chickpeas, or teriyaki stir fry to name a few. The eatery sources all of its fresh ingredients for smoothies from local farmers’ markets and distributors.
The most popular juice sold at Vibez is the “Strong Vibez” juice (made with celery, ginger, green apple, kale, and spinach). When it comes to smoothies, Medjine recommends no.3, which is made with strawberry, almond butter, banana, and almond milk. Vibez also sells a variety of healthy snacks, vitamins, and protein powders on a shelf in the back of the cafe.

The Vibe
The cafe is small and cozy, without too many frills but plenty of comfortable seating and a friendly atmosphere. There’s free WiFi and free alkaline water to customers.
On some nights there’s live acoustic music entertainment featuring local and international artists, as well as community activities such as chess night for kids and free math homework help for grades 6th through 12th on Wednesdays. Vibez is also a great place to host private parties or functions and offers vegan + vegetarian catering.
