Off-the-beaten and set back from the Washington Street scene, The Stewed Cow is one of Hoboken’s best-kept bar secrets. This Old Western Saloon {located at 400 Adams Street} features an extensive list of All American whiskeys and bourbons, ciders {made fresh in-house} and boasts a drool-worthy menu full of Texas-style plates. They certainly playoff that neighborhood vibe, which is why so many Hobokenites have made this their local watering hole. Put on some cowboy boots, make your way over, and enjoy the ride on the bull — below, learn all about The Stewed Cow in Hoboken below:

The History

Tsujita

Owner of The Stewed Cow, The Brass Rail, and Union Hall, Joseph SanPhilip’s vision was to create a Texas bar carrying only American style bourbons and whiskeys. After revamping the old Gas Light Pub nearly five years ago, throwing in a mechanical bull, and putting together a ridiculous food and drink menu, The Stewed Cow was born — and we are loving it. Formerly Gaslight {anyone that remembers this spot, pour one out for its boozy brunches}, the new space definitely took it up a notch for the bar scene in this area.

^^The loaded tots that are srsly something to brag about —  constantly craving these babies all. the. time.

The menu at The Stewed Cow features a large selection of Texas-style plates — transporting us out of New Jersey for a hot sec. Some of the best dishes here are the Carolina BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich {which quite literally melts in the mouth}, and the loaded tots {drooling just thinking about them}. Looking for something a bit healthier, make a own custom salad, too. Some hidden gems of the menu that often get overlooked but are swoon-worthy are the Cowboy Spaghetti, Gumbo, and Prime Rib — which comes with a featured side and disco fries.

^^ Their gumbo is SO good + total comfort food.

Boozy Brunch

Take everything currently known about brunch and throw it out the window because The Stewed Cow kicks it up a notch. For $20, each brunch-goer gets “a little something from the house” {aka chocolate chip oatmeal or fresh fruit}, a basket of pastries for the table, a choice of an entree, and two drinks. Take our word for it, Frankie’s Feast {Bourbon dipped French toast, two eggs, sausage, and potatoes} is almost too good to be true. If extra hungry, the Road Kill Platter {brisket, bacon, scrambled eggs, over a biscuit, and topped with spicy sausage gravy} will definitely help kick that morning hangover.

Enjoy a Mimosa or Manmosa, Bloody Mary, Red or White Sangria, Old Fashioned, Blue Moon, Coors or a signature Stewed Palmer. Brunch runs every Saturday and Sunday from 11:00AM to 3:00PM.

Those that beat the record get a customized Stewed Cow Flask, t-shirt, and a free drink at the bar {+ not to mention, bragging rights}.

Final Verdict

There’s really not much to dislike about The Stewed Cow. There’s everything from bourbon + whiskey to specialty cocktails and seasonal beers. The food is seriously TDF and with happy hour every day from 5:00PM-7:00PM, it’s a cinch to try every and any type of cocktail for a fraction of the price.

SC also has outdoor dining, which is great to take advantage of during the nice weather months. Plus, if opting for a night-in but still need to satisfy a Stewed Cow craving, pick up food for takeout, or have it delivered from sites like Seamless and GrubHub.
