No matter the season, cocktails are always on the menu. And because cocktails that are Instagram-worthy are even more exciting than your average, it’s no surprise that Cellar335 is one of our new favorite Jersey City spots, especially when you’re craving some tropical treats and warm weather. Chef/owner Jamie Knott opened this downtown spot at 335 Newark Ave in September of 2016, offering a tiki-style twist to JC’s bar scene.
Inside you’ll find dark lighting, industrial texture, lounge areas, bright red bar stools, and of course — rum for dayssss. The ambiance is fun, but the cocktails are even more fun at Cellar335.
Must-trys on the menu? Spicy cornbread {with smoked cheddar and honey-togarashi butter}, the Tropical Salad {napa cabbage, snow peas, pineapple, kiwi sesame dressing}, Crack Fries {bacon, scallion, cheese sauce}, and Avocado-Fried Rice {Napa cabbage, radish, sesame, soy, and cilantro}. Amazeeee.
Even though the food is delish {tip: plates are small, so definitely order a few to share!}, the drinks are where it’s at. Here are a few more of the gram-worthy concoctions on the pseudo-intimidating drink menu:
For the Tiki-novice, have no fear — the servers are well-equipped to provide recs for your cocktails, but may we suggest the Miami Vice {duh!}, the Louie Louie {brennivin aquavit, bols genever, house blended sherry, orgeat, pineapple, vanilla, allspice}, and the Fresh Water Mana {house blended sherry, el dorado 8yr, coconut cream, strawberry, pineapple — plus, it’s served in a “fish!”}. For a large group, opt for the “In the Navy” — which consists of lemon hart 151, cinnamon, passion fruit, ginger, allspice, lemon, pilsner or the Zombie Priest Punch {bacardi 8, el dorado 151, appleton 12yr, pineapple, passionfruit, absinthe, angostura bitters}. Quite the treat, that’s for sure.
If you’re traveling with a tamer crowd, there’s a beer, wine, and sparkling collection of bevs to boot.
Pastry chef John Chomenko went all out with his mini-dessert menu, a perfect addition to an already unique menu. Top picks: Ice Cream Sandwiches, the Zeppoli with Nutella cream, and the Pumpkin Crumble {granola, butterscotch, vanilla whip}. D-E-D #ded. A word to the wise — for $10 a pop, it’s definitely a pretty penny for a small little treat, so in general, you’re truly coming for an experience rather than filling up on a heart meal {but still worth some menu ordering, that’s for sure!}.
A festive cocktail spot in downtown JC make you feel like you’re on vacation any time of year = Cellar335. We’re in.
Have you been to Cellar335? What did you think?
