Celebrities frequent Hoboken and Jersey City quite often — especially when they’re filming movies in the area. And with working on set comes the need to be caffeinated. One such celebrity, Penn Badgley, most recently known for his creepy role in the Netflix series YOU (but best known in Gossip Girl, obviously), has frequented Hoboken a bunch in the last year or so. Each time, he visits with a favorite coffee shop in his sights: bwè kafe.

While Penn is mainly a Brooklyn resident now a la The Observer, he’s been a frequent flyer at bwè kafe in uptown Hoboken. In fact, just this morning, bwè posted an image of Penn Badgely sipping a cup of Joe on its Instagram stories. While the image was from back in 2021, the account shared with us, “This picture is from last year — though he’s visited a couple times 😋.”
bwè also noted that Penn was very gracious and fine with his photo taken, and had been visiting friends who lived locally as well as headed to Stevens for his band’s performance the last few times he visited.

The shop shared exclusively with Hoboken Girl that Penn usually orders the drip, but regulars know that bwè has an amazing arsenal of goodies and is dedicated to serving top quality and earth-conscious coffee through its brewing methods.
The shop also sells specialty teas, drinks, and healthy foods – and as its owners say, “bwè kafe is an open and warm setting for stories to be told, creativity to flow, and cultures to meet.”
bwè opened in 2015 and quickly rose to caffeine stardom as a community space for WFHers, meetings, and delicious brew. It also has opened additional locations in Newport, Jersey City, as well as uptown’s North End location, which has a large, loft-like space for enjoying coffee and catching up on some work.

These celeb spottings aren’t completely out of the norm in the Mile Square and Jersey City, as many movie features have recently been moving west of the Hudson to film in New Jersey. Zac Efron was also spotted at bwè this year while filming a movie also starring Russell Crowe and Bill Murray, and Anne Hathaway had been spotted recently as well.
