• National Pie Day: 7 Spots to Eat Pie {in Hoboken and Jersey City}

    Written by:

    #NationalPieDay {not to be confused with March 14th!} was yesterday, so we thought what better place to celebrate than Hoboken after an epic snowstorm? Everyone deserves some dessert every now and again, so INDULGE {especially since you’ve been inside most of the day}. There are tons of places to find dessert in Hoboken, yet the ones below do pie pretty deliciously. Be sure to stop in for a bite or take your slice to go; you do not want to miss this special celebration {even if it has to be post-poned due to snow}!

    Schnackenberg’s Luncheonette

    Schnackenberg’s has been an iconic spot in Hoboken or over 82 years {with a little break in between ownerships}, located at 1110 Washington Street. Their apple, cherry, and key lime pies have been a force to be reckoned with ever since {as are their root beer floats [above] — and doughnuts!}. Though their pies keep it simple {and delicious}, Schnackenberg’s makes its own chocolates by hand – a great spot for sweet treats in town. YUM!

    Malibu Diner

    $1.95 for various slices of pie {and free parking!}. Doesn’t get much better than that. The Malibu Diner is a 24-hour diner located at 14th and Park. The spot has been open since the 40s – but recreated as a more modern spot – and it can host small groups or large groups {there’s a ton of space!}. Did we mention there’s free parking?!

    Sobsey’s Produce

    sobsey's mini pumpkin pies

    If you haven’t had a mini apple/sour cream pie from Sobsey’s yet, YOU’RE MISSING OUT. These pies are not only some of the most delicious we’ve tasted, but they’re also made in Brooklyn {relatively locally} and sold exclusively at Sobsey’s in Hoboken. SO GOOD.

    Brownstone Diner & Pancake Factory

    The Brownstone Diner & Pancake Factory has been providing delicious pancakes and desserts for the Jersey City/Hoboken area for over 47 years {and they now have a location in Edgewater!}. Their JC spot is located at 437 Jersey Avenue, and the diner has a variety of mouth-watering pies that are sure to complete your celebrations. The delectable selection includes fruit pies {blueberry, apple or coconut custard} for $3.50, banana cream, chocolate cream, lemon meringue, and key lime pie. Decisions, decisions!

    Who’s Gluten Free

    whos-gluten-free-pie-hoboken

    Who’s Gluten Free is a bakery dedicated to baking and creating nutritious, gluten-free treats for the public. Previously located at 942 Summit Ave, the Who’s Gluten Free kitchen is now expanding their space {in a spot TBD!}. The health-focused company works to create delicious new recipes for people to try – and whether you are gluten free or just looking for a nutritious treat, their creations are delish.

    Sweet

    Sweet is located at 343 Garden Street in Hoboken. They have been selling some pretty sweet treats in Hoboken since 2008, including cupcakes, bars, Rice Krispie Treats, brownies, and of course: pie! Their Chocolate Pudding Pie is a favorite, composed of creamy chocolate pudding layered with fresh whipped cream on graham cracker crumbs – for a whopping $6 a piece. Totally worth the splurge!

    Otto Strada

    If a “pizza” pie counts, then you’re in luck. Two of our fave Nutella “pies” are from Otto Strada and Blue Eyes Cafe {currently closed for reno} – and both have some of the most delicious Nutella pizza pies in the biz. Otto Strada is open for brunch and dinner on the weekends {and if you’re lucky, you’ll even get to order a cannoli cone which is OOTW — out of this world — if you’re not super progressive with your acronyms}.

    So there you have it — 7 spots to get your pie day on. What’s your favorite? Would love to hear!
