Things have been buzzing in the most diverse city in America, aka Jersey City. Many new restaurants have opened and a number have {unfortunately} closed as well. But with all these openings and closings, a few hidden gems have remained. Enter — Jersey Social. Read on to learn all about this JC bar and restaurant — and how it’s redefining mixology downtown.

About Jersey Social

This location from New York-based RB Hospitality Group has found a home below the Cast Iron Lofts on the corner of 18th and Jersey Avenue. The location is very much on the far side of town, but that’s nothing an Uber can’t fix. Previously in this space was Brewshot Cafe, owned by Arun Nanda who partnered with friend and RB Hospitality Group owner Rajesh Bhardwaj to break ground on a new venture. This duo created a unique space that is serving up sophisticated cocktails in a classy yet casual environment. Jersey Social is the ideal spot to have drinks with friends, a sit-down dinner, or just a bite at the bar without a bunch of rowdy college kids ruining the vibe.

What’s Inside

Upon entering Jersey Social, this space has a chic intimate feel, decked out with exposed ceilings and modern dim-lit fixtures. The bar features spacious seating and two televisions to watch the latest games from, which doesn’t distract from the upscale modern décor. Aside from the high-top seating, there are plenty of table and booth options, and even a private room tucked away to the right of the bar.

Food and drink are at the center of this swanky establishment, with the likes of Chef Adin Langille {founder and CEO of the Michelin-starred restaurant Junoon} and world-renowned mixologist Hemant Pathak from Junoon. These two masters of the culinary world have curated a food and drink menu that is sure to bring in the locals for a one of a kind experience. From classic drinks to signature specials like the Mixx It Up {vodka, lychee purée, lemon, butterfly pea flower, and house-made orange soda}, the menu does not disappoint.

House-made popcorn is the first thing to hit the table. Enjoy a bowl of these freshly-popped kernels to start things off while browsing the food and drink options. As for drinks, Jersey Social has mastered the classics so there is no wrong in going for an old favorite. For something new and flavorful, the Symphony cocktail is like a vacation in a cup. This rum-based drink has an island vibe and is topped with fresh mint and diced pineapple. For a stronger sip, the El Mentor is a solid choice of tequila and jalapeño infused maple syrup which is sure to light up the taste buds. For all the non-drinkers a small section of the menu exists for you — the Jersey Social Lemonade and Morning Glory are both delicious options.

What’s on the Food Menu

The menu is broken down into small, medium and large plates, which is great for those in the mood for a full dinner or just some snacks. For the small plates, expect staples such as shrimp cocktail and chicken wings, but also some out of the box items like corn and chorizo fritter lollipops. On the medium side, the nachos and candied bacon are showstoppers that can’t be missed.

Now for the main event, the large plates. Jersey City is home to some of the tastiest burgers in the tri-state area. Ask anyone in town their favorite burger spot and you’ll most likely hear White Star, Left Bank, or Diesel and Duke. Jersey Social has stepped up to the plate with the double-stack burger. This sandwich consists of two 4 oz patties, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and pickled onions {candied bacon is extra, but it is a must}. Sounds simple, but it is full of flavor and pairs perfectly with a Negroni.

Let’s not forget about the chicken sandwich that comes grilled or fried and topped with kimchi coleslaw. All sandwiches are served with French fries and a side of steak house mayo dipping sauce, which is almost like a zesty rémoulade. Aside from sandwiches, we are definitely coming back to try the mushroom fusilli and grilled mahi-mahi. Both looked incredibly delicious.
