Need some motivation to keep up with those running resolutions you set for 2023? In Jersey City, there are tons of running groups to help you stay accountable. Jersey City Runners hosts group runs every day of the week, the Sam AM Run Club meets every Wednesday morning for a Liberty State Park run, and the Grind Society goes for a run on Sundays and Thursdays from The Grind Shop. The Powerhouse Street Club recently got in the mix and The Hoboken Girl joined the crew for a few group runs. Keep reading to learn all about the Powerhouse Street Club and how you can join this welcoming group.
Powerhouse Street Club Basics
Powerhouse Street Club launched on January 2, 2023, and the group meets every Monday night at 6:45PM but the run/walk doesn’t start until 7:00PM.
The run starts and ends at Departed Soles Brewing Company on 150 Bay St #2a. It’s a ~3.5 mile out and back route that goes from Departed Soles to the Water’s Soul Statue, and back via the waterfront path.
After the run, most runners stick around to chat over a beer. It’s a great way to meet people, especially if you are not one of those runners who can chat during the run.
What You Need to Know as a First Timer
Whether you’re training for a marathon or just want some company for an evening stroll, this group is for you. It’s free to join but bring your wallet if you want to grab a post-run beer.

Darshan Rangnath, the Powerhouse Street Club founder, told The Hoboken Girl that he started the group as a way to make friends, build a welcoming running community, and support local businesses. He wants first-timers to know that this group is open to everyone. Runners and walkers at every pace are welcome and encouraged to join and there’s no need to feel intimidated.
Bag check is available at Departed Soles, so don’t worry about finding a place to stash your stuff. They’ll keep an eye on your bag while you go for your run.
To make your first run easier, consider getting to Departed Soles closer to 6:45PM to introduce yourself and to meet some other runners. Darshan starts each run by discussing the route (which is always the same) and taking a group photo. Runners are welcome to hang out at Departed Soles after the jog for a beer.
Making new friends in Jersey City doesn’t have to be hard, but it can be intimidating if you don’t know where to start. Going for a run with Powerhouse Street Club and meeting people over a craft beer is an easy way to plug into the community. Plus, we love the idea of a post-run beer – honestly, this is one of the only reasons we are getting out on a Monday night for a run.
Departed Soles is a beloved Jersey City brewery with an excellent selection of both gluten-free and #DefinitelyNotGlutenFree brews. But don’t worry – if you don’t want to drink you can still join Powerhouse Street Club for the run and alcohol-free conversation afterward. Departed Soles doesn’t sell food but outside food is encouraged and some runners have ordered pizza or packed snacks for a post-run picnic at the brewery.
Powerhouse Street Club hosts group runs every Monday night from Departed Soles and so far this is the club’s only event.
However, Darshan told Hoboken Girl that there are some future events in the works. While the plans aren’t finalized, he mentioned that Powerhouse Street Club will likely have some group events to support the Jersey City Marathon on April 23.
