In the wake of a global pandemic and months of quarantining, people are looking for ways to be proactive outside of their homes while still adhering to safety protocols, and one way to quench that thirst for interactive, healthy, fun, and safe experiences is by joining a running club. Not only is running extremely beneficial for physical health, but it also helps with mental health and can reduce stress significantly. Running with a group of experts and beginners alike can take your skills to the next level as well as be an opportunity to meet new people. Read on to learn more about some of the running clubs you can join in Hoboken or Jersey City, depending on where you’re located (though you may — just may — be able to run there regardless of location).

The Hoboken Elysianettes

The Hoboken Elysianettes Running Society is a running club exclusively for women in the Hoboken area. They are a non-profit charitable organization under the Road Runners Clubs of America. The ladies run weekly on the waterfront’s paths in Hoboken, taking in the picturesque views of the Hudson and New York City at the same time. Beginners are provided with training assistance and advice while more seasoned runners are given the opportunity to run in marathons and half-marathons throughout the year, so there is a place for runners of all strengths For more information, email [email protected] or visit their site.

Jack Rabbit Hoboken

Jack Rabbit is a fitness, clothing, and accessories store located on Washington Street  — offering training programs and free fit-analysis services. The staff is very knowledgeable, as they hire local running enthusiasts and tailor their products and services to the local community. Jack Rabbit has a running club session every Thursday {4 miles} at 7:00PM that end with a beer, as well as every Saturday at 8:30AM that end with coffee and bagels. Fleet Feet Running Club

Fleet Feet is a sports store in Hoboken at 604 Washington Street that provides running gear, advice, and a running club to the community. The Fleet Feet Running Club runs Wednesday evenings all year long and is always welcoming new runners. Walkers, run/walkers, runners, and also triathletes attend each Wednesday, making it an event for people of all strengths. Learn more here.

Hoboken Harriers

The Hoboken Harriers Running Club {also known as HOHA} was founded in 1988 and is running strong today. The group runs generally four times weekly, and the courses vary based on mileage. The nice part about it is that they always make sure that no runner is ever left behind – even if you’re slower. Runners of all levels and ages are welcome, in addition to 5K walkers for certain events. Joining HOHA is $10 for the year. Learn more here.

Zap Fitness

Gold Coast Triathlon Club

The Gold Coast Triathlon Club is a non-profit dedicated to growing athletes’ abilities. Club members are mentored, learn through group training sessions, and socialize with one another inside and outside of the group. Members also practice swimming and biking so they can participate in triathlons in the future. Scheduled swimming, cycling, and running meets take place weekly and annual costs $25. YogaRenew’s Yogging Club 

If you haven’t heard of the term ‘yogging,’ it’s a term that mixes yoga + running together. YogaRenew hosts a 3-mile group run combined with a 10-minute group stretch. It takes place on different days and times, so it’s best to stay updated on the website or YogaRenew’s Instagram.

Jersey City Runners Club

Jersey City Runners is a local running group that is open to all. The group provides a supportive and positive environment for running with opportunities every day of the week — and members represent all levels of the running spectrum, regardless of running pace. Jersey City Slow AF Run Club

Jersey City Slow AF Run Club is a newer running club for those a bit less hardcore about running, but who want to improve their running skills. Their first meetup is October 25th — and here’s what to expect: meet + greet with the team, few minutes of light stretching to warm-up, a 2-mile fun run, and then a light cool-down. Skyline Run Club

Skyline Run Club welcomes runners of all levels and provides athletes with high-quality consistent training intended to improve the mind and body. The club meets weekly in Weehawken NJ, where they take part in either speed sessions on the track or venturing out on endurance runs along the NYC skyline on the Weehawken side. The annual membership fee is $30.


Alfalfa Running Club | Hoboken + Jersey City

Alfalfa, a brand highly known for its salads + donuts, has its own running club. The salad shop organizes monthly run sessions and usually keeps its audience in the know through its Instagram page. Each run lasts for 3 miles, depending on the route. To register for the Alfalfa Run Club, there is a fee of $30 — which includes an Alfalfa Run Club t-shirt, food + drink specials (on the day of the run), and a $5 donation to the non-profit organization, Bring Change to Mind.
