Something new is landing in the Mile Square, and this time, it is not a restaurant or coffee shop. Philadelphia-based fitness and well-being brand City Fitness is opening its first New Jersey club at Maxwell Place in uptown Hoboken on Friday, July 17th. The new gym, located at 1000 Maxwell Lane, adds another full-service fitness option to Hoboken’s uptown neighborhood. It is also the first of two City Fitness locations planned for the Mile Square, with another club coming to the Southend Lofts at 38 Jackson Street. About City Fitness
Founded in Philadelphia in 2007, City Fitness currently operates eight neighborhood clubs and serves more than 25,000 members. The two Hoboken locations mark the company’s first expansion outside of Philadelphia and its first clubs in New Jersey.
“Every City Fitness club carries the same commitment to training, recovery, and community, but takes on the character of the space and the people around it,” City Fitness founder and CEO Ken Davies said in a press release. “That’s what we’re excited to bring to Hoboken.”
The brand combines traditional gym equipment, boutique-style fitness classes, small-group coaching, and recovery services under one roof. While the Hoboken locations will follow the same overall model as the Philadelphia clubs, each space is expected to reflect its surrounding neighborhood.

What to Expect at City Fitness Hoboken
The Maxwell Place club will feature cardio and strength-training equipment, an Olympic lifting area, a functional turf zone, and plate-loaded and selectorized strength sections. Members will also have access to City Fitness’s four signature boutique fitness concepts. BURN focuses on high-energy HIIT and strength training, while FOCUS covers yoga, Pilates, and other mind-body workouts. SHIFT is the company’s indoor cycling program, and WE/FIT is its signature bootcamp-style class. CF/THRIVE, a small-group coaching program developed with strength and conditioning expert Mike Boyle, will also be available.

City Fitness is also bringing its recovery-focused concept to Hoboken, with amenities including infrared saunas, compression therapy, HydroMassage, and other equipment designed to support rest and recovery. City Fitness’s current Maxwell Place membership page also lists cryotherapy and red-light recovery equipment among the planned amenities.
A second club is planned for the Southend Lofts at 38 Jackson Street, giving the brand a presence on both ends of Hoboken. An exact opening date for the Southend location has not yet been announced.

City Fitness Hoboken Membership Options
City Fitness is offering three 12-month membership options for its Hoboken clubs:
- Neighborhood Membership: Starts at $74.50 bi-weekly and includes access to the member’s home club.
- Studio+ Membership: Costs $87.50 bi-weekly, or about $190 per month, and includes access to both Hoboken locations, unlimited studio classes, the full gym floor, and in-club recovery amenities.
- Performance+ Membership: Costs $99.50 bi-weekly, or about $216 per month, and includes staffed recovery sessions, expanded recovery services, member events, and other lifestyle perks.
A refundable $1 deposit reserves a founding member spot, with the founding rate guaranteed for two years.
