An underrated perk of living in Hoboken is just how easy it is to get to a Broadway show (shout out to the 126 bus!). We recently had a chance to see JUST IN TIME, a new musical at Circle in the Square Theatre in New York City, currently starring Jeremy Jordan. The show follows the life and legacy of singer Bobby Darin, bringing his story to life with a full-venue transformation and an amazing narrative. Read on to learn about our team’s experience at the JUST IN TIME Broadway musical.
About JUST IN TIME
JUST IN TIME is a Broadway musical at New York City’s Circle in the Square Theatre that tells the story of the singer Bobby Darin, known for his run as a global sensation from the late ’50s until his passing in 1973 (think “Splish Splash,” “Dream Lover”). Our team went to see the show and absolutely loved it. The entire venue is transformed into a nightclub-style ambiance, with plenty of Bobby’s iconic hits played throughout the show.
Currently starring Jeremy Jordan (of The Great Gatsby and Newsies fame) as Bobby Darin and Olivia Holt (a star of the Disney Channel series Kickin’ It), the entire cast made the show feel more like an event, with amazing performances, choreography, and participatory moments with the crowd. It was such a lovely tribute to Bobby Darin’s career, too — portraying the big, glossy accomplishments and real familial traumas with equal importance and emotion.
If you’re unfamiliar with Bobby Darin’s lore, JUST IN TIME lays it all out there: following Darin’s career from his rise as a sickly child in the Bronx to becoming a major entertainer in the ’50s and ’60s. The show explores his intense ambition, rejection in the industry, complicated family history, and lifelong battle with a serious heart condition. You will laugh, cry, sing along, and feel all the feels.
Of course, there’s romance — JUST IN TIME also highlights Darin’s relationships with legendary singer Connie Francis (a New Jersey native, BTW!) and actress Sandra Dee.
The Circle in the Square Theatre is the perfect venue for a show like this and provides a uniquely intimate experience: it’s one of only two Broadway houses with a thrust stage, where the audience is seated on three sides of the stage – there are even cabaret tables onstage that will put you right in the heart of the action!
Getting Tickets (And Getting There!)
Traveling from Hoboken to the theatre was a seamless experience. We hopped on the 126 bus and got dropped off at Port Authority; from there, it was about a 10-minute walk to The Circle in the Square.
Plus, will be in theaters for some time, with tickets on sale through Sunday, October 18th. The show is at Circle in the Square Theatre, located at 235 West 50th Street in New York City, and tickets can be purchased here.
