It’s easy to get stuck in the same workout routine. But, when it comes to getting stronger and leaner it’s important to change it up and keep the body guessing. Reformer Pilates is a great option for this, as each class tests out new moves, targeting different muscles in the body and improving posture. Plus, with bikini season in full swing, it’s definitely a good time to get that bum {pun intended} in gear. Bum Pilates not only provides a killer workout but also has a laid-back welcoming vibe that makes students want to come back over and over again. Read on to see why we love this downtown workout spot and our review of the new space:

Club Pilates 2023

Bum Pilates’ downtown location is super accessible, which makes it convenient to get a workout in. It’s directly across from the Hoboken PATH station on the 4th floor if 22 Hudson Place, the same building that also houses Salon Gatto. After taking the elevator to the 4th floor, the doors lead directly into the studio. Prior to opening, Bum underwent a full renovation after taking over the space from Kure Pilates. With soft pink walls, pretty lights, and a mix of pilates machines and TRX bands, it feels like walking into a BFF’s adorably chic apartment, except with machines everywhere which provide a killer workout.

About Bum’s Founder

Hobbs Inc

Cait Kolibas, the founder of Bum, is super cool and an awesome instructor to boot {plus… she’s a total babe whose abs are serious #goals}. Cait makes everyone who enters the studio feel completely comfortable; whether a student is a Pilates novice or has used a reformer for years, Cait knows how to taylor a session. She’s been an instructor in various pilates studios in Hoboken and NYC and took all of that experience with her when creating the classes and method behind the Bum Pilates style.

The Classes

AXIS School of Dance

The classes at Bum are meant to help students both restore and build, using a restorative method applied to classes meant to help students with pain management and rehabilitation from injuries. Pilates is known to strengthen the body in a way that relieves common and not-so-common physical ailments. According to their website, Bum specializes in working with people with back and neck pain, hip and knee surgeries or replacements, pre- and post-natal women, plantar fasciitis, those suffering from multiple sclerosis, plus daily wear and tear.

The build method in their classes incorporates the use of the reformer to help develop and define muscle in the body. Classes are limited to four students per session, so they offer a semi-private, boutique type feel. These classes include full 55-minute Reformer classes and also their signature Mat Fusion classes that incorporate TRX bands as well. After testing out both the TRX and Reformer, it’s safe to say that between the two muscles you didn’t even know existed will be burning {holyyyy intensity}, aka the body is definitely building strength and toning as well. Trust us, the sore muscles speak for themselves.

One of the best parts about Bum is that it offers a community experience while also working at everyone’s own individual level. By keeping the classes small, it guarantees one-on-one attention and an intimate experience that feels catered to each student, while also being motivated to push to the max {since you’re surrounded by other ladies who are killin’ it in the workout game}. Pilates uses body weight to offer resistance in each movement, so the machines and workout can be adjusted as needed for what the body is able to handle that day.

Our reasoning: The classes at Bum are challenging but also provide deep stretching to balance it. Using the machines and TRX bands requires a fair amount of coordination which can be tricky to find the first time through. It’s a full body workout that leaves the body sore for a few days following the session, which is a great feeling since it means it’s getting longer and leaner.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a great way to strengthen and lengthen and keep in shape this summer and beyond, Bum Pilates is highly recommended. The 55-minutes spent in class will be well worth it and will leave the body feeling not only physically stronger but also leave the mind feeling empowered. Plus, they’re currently running a new client discount on both group and private classes, so be sure to check them out ASAP.
