In New Jersey, we are lucky to have a lot of family-friendly local towns that are great for trick-or-treating — and one Hudson County city was just awarded a particular distinction for being one of the best places to celebrate Halloween. Per a WalletHub 2022 study published on October 24th, Jersey City was ranked the 7th best place to observe Halloween without breaking the bank. The study compared 100 of the most populated U.S. cities and assessed trick-or-treater friendless, Halloween fun, and Halloween weather. Read on to learn more about why Jersey City made the top 10 for best places to celebrate Halloween in the US.

About the Study

The WalletHub study ranked 100 cities in the US, looking at trick-or-treating friendliness, Halloween fun, and Halloween weather. Across these areas, the study examined 22 metrics such as walkability, population density, the number of local pumpkin patches, the number of potential places to stop for candy, and more in order to determine a city’s appropriate ranking. The study also cited the average cost that most families will spend on Halloween this year (which is about $100), saying that a catalyst for creating this ranking was to help families get the most bang for the buck in terms of the Halloween experience.

Of course, we know there are so many Hudson County events that contribute to Halloween fun. For one, Jersey City’s Zombie Opera (which is in its 3rd year) provides a unique, exciting, and family-friendly local event. This is only one of the fun local zombie events + traditions. In Hoboken, there’s the annual Ragamuffin Parade along with the community costume contest. There’s event a pet costume contest in Jersey City.

We’re proud to see our wonderful Jersey City getting the Halloween recognition it deserves — just in time for the holiday.
