A lot of times, this little treat comes in the form of a post-work cocktail (and there’s no shortage of great outdoor spots in Hoboken + Jersey City to get our fix) — but even more frequently and crucial to our happiness are the non-alcoholic options: the seasonal coffee, matcha, or tea beverages that seem to get more creative + delicious every year. For the next AM coffee run or mid-day screen break, here are three tasty, non-alcoholic beverages we’re loving in Hoboken (and Jersey City!) right now. After The Hive dropped its Chocolate Covered Strawberry Latte this past Valentine’s Day, we were convinced nothing would ever top it (that strawberry cold foam is truly what dreams are made of). But this local coffee shop continues to raise the bar, and this summer, they’re taking us back to nights at the Jersey Shore boardwalks with an Orange Creamsicle Latte. The drink is a combo of espresso, orange, and white mocha syrups — and tastes exactly how we remember the iconic orange twist soft-serve from Kohr’s. For those who are not creamsicle fans (change that), there are other summer specials like a mocha latte, a mango matcha, and a hibiscus iced tea.

Taro Matcha at Hidden Grounds | 700 Garden Street, 79 Hudson Street, Hoboken & 148 1st Street, Jersey City

The Taro Matcha Dream is an aptly-named matcha drink we can’t get enough of. With taro (which is a root vegetable) + vanilla syrups, oat milk, and matcha powder, this latte is a creamy and refreshing option for non-coffee drinkers. This drink is available at both Hoboken locations and the Jersey City locations. Did we mention that it’s lavender and green? Your phone will want to drink first.

Organic Passionfruit Black Tea at Shaka Kitchen | 110 Washington Street & 720 Monroe Street, Hoboken
While Acai + poke bowls were once the namesake of this local gem, the drinks are not to be slept on. This summer, Shaka is serving up a naturally caffeinated, unsweetened, Organic Passionfruit Black Tea refresher. Perfect for those unbearably hot days (which are coming…hopefully), this drink also has pieces of fresh pineapple in it. There’s a Hibiscus Berry tea available too, which is lightly sweetened and has fresh strawberries.
